Referee Uniform Passback Program

for the good of the game...

Objective:

This program, in conjunction with the US Soccer Foundation Passback Program, will provide used but still wearable Uniforms, (Jerseys of all colors, Shorts and Socks) Shoes, Flags and other gear to individuals that are unable to afford even the most basic equipment as a referee.

Scope of Services:

On an ongoing basis I will collect used but still wearable referee gear. This includes Jerseys (of all current USSF and NISOA colors), Shorts, Socks (of all current USSF and NISOA colors), Flags, Cleats, Whistles, Lanyards, Watches, or anything else that a soccer referee might use. Participates should feel free to donate whatever they no longer need, as long as it is still in useable condition. If I receive any gear that in my judgment is unusable, then that piece of equipment will be donated to Goodwill Industries.

Also on an ongoing basis I will make the used uniform inventory available to anyone who might need that gear on a first-needed, first-come first-served basis. That means that when a Grade 9 class is being held in the Albuquerque Metro Area I will make those uniforms available to that class (either personally or through a proxy) on the last day after they are certified. They will receive whatever basic equipment they need to get them started based on what I have in inventory. Other beginning referees who have just certified who have a need can contact me on an individual basis via phone or e-mail and I will make arrangements to get what they need to them. Other individuals can also contact me to let me know their needs and to see if I can help them based on stock on hand.

This will be an honor system. I would like the Grade 9 referees to have the chance to get the gear they need but I am not going to stop Grade 8 referees from also seeing if I have different color shirts to add to their wardrobe and such. If someone has a special circumstance, for example, their bag gets stolen, they can contact me to see what I have to help them out until they can get going again.

My Responsibilities:

I will be the sole caretaker of this program. I will do my best to manage the program in an equal and fair manner. I will collect and store the Passback gear at my home in Albuquerque. I will collect Passback gear at anytime with an emphasis to collect and distribute the Passback gear at the monthly ASRA meetings.

Benefits:

We all know the rising costs of jerseys and other such referee equipment has become a popular discussion issue. By establishing and continuing this program we can relieve some of the financial burden for beginning and other referees who find those costs are too restrictive for them. That way everyone’s uniform needs can be met and maybe more referees will join our ranks. I myself have always made it a habit of passing on my old jerseys when I have upgraded to newer jerseys.

Costs:

There are no costs to ASRA as far as I can tell. However if this should change then the officers and staff members will be notified and I will address the membership at a monthly meeting to address the issue and explain any costs that have come to light.

Closing:

In closing, I believe that this is a program whose time has come. It will benefit all who participate in it. It will be up to all of the ASRA membership to make it successful. I will do my best to fulfill my duties on an ongoing basis. It will be everyone else’s job to clean out their closets.

Thank you for your time. If there are any questions I can be reached at the address, phone or e-mail listed below.
