2001-present: Full time Academic Advising Specialist for the Student Academic Affairs Office of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Currently, assigned to the Late Add/Drop Committee and Grade Audit committees, as needed. Also, a zero percent time appointment to teach courses in political science and one Discovery course.

1993-2001: Permanent half-time Undergraduate Academic Advisor, Department of Political Science, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. On a yearly contract from 1988-1993. Served as Acting Director of Undergraduate Studies, Department of Political Science, 1992-1993 and 2000-2001.

1993-2001: Adjunct Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Visiting Assistant Professor from 1988-1993. Taught one course each term for the Department. Also taught seminar-style political science courses each semester in Unit One at Allen Hall.


Teaching and Research Areas:

Comparative Politics: General and regional (East Asia), especially contemporary Chinese politics, including Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Political Theory: Particular interest in socialist and communist political thought and movements; democratic theory and practice.

American Government and Politics: Economic and social justice movements in the U.S.

International Relations: World-systems theory; issues of war and peace; special interest in American foreign policy, especially politics and policy of the Vietnam war; also, Chinese foreign policy as it relates to East and Southeast Asia.

Recently completed four articles on modern China for an encyclopedia to be published by Scribners in 2009.

Developing ideas for study of political parties in Hong Kong, as result of many trips there.

"The Politics of Chinese Trotskyism: The Odyssey of a Revolutionary Marxist Opposition"; Based on expansion and update of doctoral dissertation.

Asked to assist with translation from Chinese to English of the memoirs of Chen Bilan, Chinese revolutionary and leader of the women's movement in China, for possible publication. This may be on hold for now.
