The Victorian Clothing Page
Welcome to the Victorian Clothing Page. This site offers useful information, images and links for re-enacting the Late Victorian Era. Men's clothing changed very little throughout this period, however women's clothing went through three distinct phases (Early Bustle, Natural Form and Late Bustle) and many variations. This site covers Men's clothing throughout the Late Victorian Era, but focuses on the "Early Bustle" phase (the late 1860's through the late 1870's) when it comes to women's clothing and accessories.
One of the easiest ways to learn about Victorian clothing is to watch movies set during the Victorian Era. Some movies with good images of Victorian life and clothing are: Anna Karenina (1997), Angels and Insects, Wilde, Topsy-Turvy, Portrait of a Lady and The Age of Innocence.
