Zella's Spoon Collection
Zella collected spoons while she served as an Army nurse during World
War I. Starting at the top left, the first spoon is France;
the second,Paris which she visited 1/27/19 and other times on weekend
leave; the third Bonn, which was 12.5 miles north of her center of
operations in Germany after the armistice in Neuenahr, now called Bad
Neuenahr-Ahrweiler; the fourth and fifth Bruxelles (Brussels) which she
visted on leave on 1/27/19;
the sixth is unmarked, and the seventh is (Le Touquot?) Paris Plage, a
small coastal town near her base.
The bottom row starts with Amiens which she probably visited; Nice
which she visited on 1/13/18 on an extended leave to the south of
France after she was gassed; Calais (12/30/18); Camiers,
the home of Base Hospital 12; Boulogne s/ (sur) Mer, where she first
landed in France; Versailles (7/29/18);
and St Omer, 30 miles northest of Camiers. All the cities are within 50
miles of where Zella was based with the exceptions of Paris,
Versailles, and Bruxelles at 120 miles and Nice at 540 miles.
