Qualifying Workshop

A qualifying workshop gives basic knowledge for persons who have a professional use for the MBTI assessment tool.

Qualifying  workshops are designed for:

The MBTI instrument is quite different from most other psychological instruments in its construction, scoring and interpretation.  It is based on Jung's theory about normal personality differences and needs to be interpreted accordingly. Qualification training is intended to give the user basic knowledge needed to use type appropriately.

The publisher, CPP, Inc., sets minimum requirements to use the MBTI instrument. These include completion of course work or equivalent documented training in tests and measurements. Zeisset Associates, Inc., is a CPP-approved provider of MBTI qualifying training.

Persons with advanced degreees who are already qualified are invited to increase their knowledge and competence in using the MBTI instrument by taking the qualifying training. Such persons are exempt from taking the national exam, if they wish. If you need clarification on whether or not you are already qualified, contact CPP at 800-624-1765.

Workshop Content:

  • History and theory of the MBTI instrument
  • Characteristics of eight preferences and four temperaments
  • Type dynamics (interaction of preferences)
  • Type development through the life span
  • Applications overview
  • Basic statistics, tests and measurements as used with the MBTI instrument
  • Construction issues
  • Administration, scoring and interpretation
  • Ethical concerns
  • Written and oral exams
         Standardized multiple-choice exam
         Interpretation exam--open-book written and oral role-play

In a 5-day workshop:

Those who successfully complete the entire program, pass each exam at 80% level, and demonstrate an understanding of appropriate use of psychological type are recommended to CPP, Inc. for approval as users of the Indicator.

Those who do not pass the national exam are offered an open-book essay retake exam for an additional fee.

Persons who are already qualified to use the MBTI instrument but take the training to increase their knowledge and competence are exempt from taking the national exam, if they wish.

Participant Requirements (5-day  or 4-day participants):
  • Professional reason for using MBTI tool
  • Previously taken MBTI® assessment and received feedback   (It is essential that participants have some knowledge of their own type prior to registration for the workshop.)
  • Attendance at all days of the workshop
  • Prior completion of home study packet (minimum 40 hours recommended). Workshop days are full, with some homework each evening.

The workshop is most useful to those who complete study over several weeks and bring to the workshop a list of questions to be clarified
