Think of an area of your life you would like to have more information on and ask a question based on what you would like to know.

Write your question down along with the date and the deck you are using.

Ground and center and select your card.

Note what card you received in your journal.

Look at the card and write down as many questions about the imagery as you can think of. For each question, make up an answer. You can even tell a story about the image.

Example: 3 of Cups

Why are these women in this field? Why are they holding up cups? What's that pumpkin doing there?

They are sisters who live together and they are happy. They are celebrating their garden which will feed them in the coming months. The pumpkin will be carved as a jack-o-lantern at Halloween.

Turn the statements around and phrase them about yourself.

Example: 3 of Cups
I'm with my sisters and I'm celelbrating my happiness. I have planted a garden that will feed us in the coming months. I will carve this pumpkin at Halloween.

Some of these statement may not make logical sense. For instance, you might be an only child or perhaps you hate gardening.

But pay special attention these statements because these are the most symbolic. To help make sense of them, rephrase them back into questions.

Example: 3 of Cups

How am I celebrating my own happiness and who do I celebrate with?

What have I planted that will sustain me in the next months?

How will I use what I have planted?

You may continue this exercise by pulling cards for any questions that come up.

You can also combine this technique with others. For instance, in the above example, you could look up the symbols for pumpkin, sisters and gardens for further insight.
