Keywords
Go back through all your writings on the card you are working
with. This will include the "Entering a Card"
and "Recall an Experience" exercises along with any
writingsyou've done with the card. As you go through your
writings, look for those important words and phrases you've underlined.
Look at the card often as you do this, letting your eyes go back
and forth between what you've written and the image of the card.
Pull out any words and phrases that seem to sum up the card you
are working with. Or let these phrases suggest others to
you. These keywords and phrases can become your working
definition of the card. They are buzzwords reminding you
of your relationship with the card.
Affirmations
For the final step, write an affirmation using your keywords
and phrases. Affirmations are positive statements about
yourself. They are used to balance out the negative messages
we often tell ourselves.
An affirmation
is always a positive. If
you first write an affirmation in the negative, rephrase it in
the positive. For instance, if the first try is, "I'm
not afraid," rewrite it as, "I am courageous."
An affirmation
is always in the present tense.
If you write a sentence in the past or future, rewrite it in
the present. A sentence like, "I will be understanding
of others," becomes "I am understanding of others."
An affirmation
is always in the active voice.
A statement like, "I can be successful" is not active.
Rewrite it as "I am successful."
