Make a bunch of these; they don't take long!

Yarn I used: Knit Picks Dancing sock yarn, colorway swing, less than one 50-gram ball.

Size:  Approximately 4 inches wide x 2.5 inches high

Gauge: 8 chains = 1 inch (not terribly crucial)

Materials: 1 ball fingering weight yarn
                  Size F crochet hook
1 spring-type barrette blank,  about 3.5 inches wide

BARRETTE

Chain 37.

Row 1: Treble in 7th chain from hook (counts as first treble and ch-1 space). (Ch 1, skip 1 ch; treble in next chain)across. (16 ch-1 spaces and 17 trebles). Turn.

Row 2: (Slip stitch in first ch-1 space. Chain 25) three times. Slip st in same space.

(Slip stitch in next ch-1 space, chain 16, slip st. in same space)14 more times.

(Slip stitch in last ch-1 space. Chain 16) three times. Slip stitch in same space.

(Slip stitch in next ch-1 space, chain 16, slip stitch in same space) 14 more times.

Fasten off.

You have now worked around the entire foundation chain, top and bottom, with loops.

Assembly:

Open barrette blank and remove spring. With barrette open, thread the crocheted cover on as follows: Push end of barrette blank down into first ch-1 space, up into 2nd, down into 3rd, etc. End with pushing it up through last ch-1 space. Squish it all close together. Replace spring in barrette.
