The End of an Era

MPS: Yuba City, CA, USA: "It's a sad ending to a golden era", said Albert Everston announcing the closing of The Yuba/Sutter Young Whippersnappers Club which held its last meeting in the Cattlemen's Conference Hall of the Old Wagon Wheel Saloon in Yuba City.

As he stood alone in the splendor of the vast hall one could almost see the memories of the glory that was The Yuba/Sutter Young Whippersnappers Club. Tears welled in his eyes as he banged the official gavel for the last time and listened to it's echo in the lonely emptiness that once echoed with the laughter of generations of youth and vitality.

"I could see this coming for a long time", said Albert. "No one has joined the club since 1968. The membership has been dwindling for years. And, with the passing of Jerry Lansing last month I became the last, and only, surviving member. As the only member, I inherited the duties of the Board of Directors, the President, the Secretary/Treasurer, and the Sargent-at-Arms, so when I voted to dissolve the club the vote was unanimous. There is just no sense in me carrying on, talking to myself in this big empty room."

A plaque holding the meeting gavel of the Yuber/Sutter Young Whippersnappers Club hangs in the Cattlemen's Conference Hall bearing mute witness to an era that is now history.
