MPS: Yuba City, CA, USA: Old Sacramento preserves the historical state of a city that has grown beyond its bounds. Old buildings have been restored or rebuilt. Small business, some of them unique, fill the streets with picturesque storefronts. It is an appealing tourist attraction to native Sacramentans and to visitors alike.
It has also attracted the attention of Acting Assemblyman Maurice Stenkilbuch of Yuba City. Speaking before the Upper Assembly of the Yuba City Congress on Monday, Acting Assemblyman Stenkilbuch proposed “That Yuba City annex Old Sacramento and move it to Yuba City. Members of the Upper Assembly listened politely and scheduled hearings to be held after the municipal elections.
At his daily press conference Acting Assembly Stenkilbuch Elaborated on his plan.
“This is a great opportunity for Yuba City. Old Sacramento would be a tremendous addition to Yuba City. It would expand the tax base, lower the unemployment rate, and bring a lot of fun entertainment to the citizenship.
We already have the land cleared, ready for redevelopment. There’s no sense just letting it sit there when we can fill it with Old Sacramento.
Some people have questioned whether it is even possible to move the old town. I say not to be concerned. Our city engineers can handle the transition. Even to the detail of building a channel to the Feather River to handle the boats that normally sail the Sacramento River. We have the tracks we tore up in the center of town that we can reinstall to accomadate the Railroad Museum. We can tear up a few streets and cover them with dirt to have that old west atmosphere. There lots of things we can do to make this a valuable part of Yuba City. I am really enthusiastic about this project.”
When a reporter asked “How do you think the city of Sacramento will react to your proposal?” Acting Assemblyman Stenkilbuch responded, “ If I can get the whole assembly to act upon this issue quickly, it will be done before Sacramento realizes it has lost its Old Town.”
“How about the cost, and how will it be financed?” asked this Yuba Yada Yada corespondent. “ Hey! You can’t worry about costs.” answered Acting Assemblyman Stenkilbuch, “You have to look at the big picture. As for financing, we can float a 200 milion dollar bond and pay it off by creating an entertainment tax and a hotel tax and let the tourists pay for it.”
