WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH OPERATION STAND DOWN??

Lot’s of good things for veterans! That’s what!
The 11th Annual Operation Stand Down is scheduled for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, October 31, November 1, and 2, 2003, at the TN State Fairgrounds.

Don Samuels, Asst Commissioner, TN Dept of Veteran Affairs, will Co-Chair the 11th Annual Operation Stand Down Event with Bill Burleigh, Executive Director, OSDN.

Opening Ceremonies for the event will be at 12 Noon. Lunch will be served by the Military Officers Association beginning at 11 AM for all registered veterans, volunteers, and guests.

Our planning number for donations and services is 300 veterans. Last year we served a little over 300. We were only prepared for 250 so resources were stretched!

Thank You to the State of TN Disabled American Veterans Association for their generous donation of $3,000 to support the event.

The next Event Committee Meeting will be Thursday, July 10, 2003, beginning at 2 PM. It will be held at the OSDN offices – 12th and Edgehill Ave. Everyone is invited to attend and participate.

NEEDS FOR THE EVENT:

1. Financial donations to pay for needed items that are not donated.

2. Clothes, primarily work type clothes – jeans or corduroy pants, heavy-duty shirts, etc.

3. New white Underwear – Socks, T-Shirts, and briefs (both boxers and regular) – all sizes!

4. Volunteers! Let us know the date and time you are available from Wednesday, October 29 through Sunday, November 2, 2003. We will set up on Wednesday and Thursday prior. Whatever time you are available, we can use you!

Call Bill Burleigh, 321-3919, to find out how you can get involved with OSDN.

Or, e-mail him: bill@osdnashville.org!

The 11th Annual Operation Stand Down event has been scheduled for Friday, October 31, 2003, through Sunday, November 2, 2003 at the TN State Fairgrounds.

The TN State Fairgrounds Board of Directors voted unanimously to again host our annual event for homeless veterans. Many thanks to the TN State Fairgrounds Board of Directors for their continued support!

Last year, the Stand Down event provided services for over 300 veterans. The annual event continues to provide services to more and more veterans each year. This shows not only the need, but spotlights the great efforts of our community to reach out and support veterans through a variety of social services, information, and assistance, especially to those who are homeless. Did you know that it takes the collective efforts of over 100 organizations and agencies to support Stand Down? That over 400 people will be actively involved providing support to Stand Down throughout the event? And there have been 48 agencies and many, many people who have participated in every Stand Down for the last 10 years! What a great team!!!!

We will begin planning for the event in the next few months. I look forward to again working with our Event Committee members as we organize the community for another great Stand Down!

Thank you for your continued support,

Bill Burleigh
Executive Director
