I love the fog
gray billows moving in to shore
cool and damp
my face is wet
the mantra of waves
accompanied by sea lions and foghorns
seahorses and mermaids
and a tree that's singing with birds
like living Christmas ornaments
tweet tweet
of course we could be fogged in for
two months in San Francisco
still I loved walking the streets late at night
Sea Cliff, Russian Hill, North Beach,
it beats getting cooked in Florida
sweltering and
gasping for breath
with three more months of summer left
it's like hitting the wall
in a marathon at mile ten
and now there must be thirty fires on the beach
the evening before Labor Day
beacons of light on the shore
shrines to the passing of summer
and the night fog covers me like a shroud
black as a cormorant's beak
and soft as the
California twilight
