THE GARDEN OF SORROWS AND HOPE

this morning is cold

jays cry

hawks circle

I enter the forest

branches reach out

to shelter me

like olive trees and lavender
in Gethsemane

I ascend moss-covered steps

like the Inca Highway

to a stone wall beneath the trees

white marble

blue iris

green lichen

a sacred place of

statues

pennies

jade

   flowers

    a cracked heart

     rock piles

      crystals

       a green bottle

        bells

         shells

          beads

           a cross

            baby shoes

             sand dollar

               an apple

                a picture of a dog

the sorrows and hope:

"my mind keeps saying she is gone"

"as a signet upon thine heart

as a signet upon thine arm

for love is strong"

"goodbye

that was then which never really is now

that was then an endless climb

from a dark pit

that was then

this is now"

"in God we trust"

"I lay my problems of the heart at your lotus feet"
