soft and muted in a sea of cotton

sometimes darkened by clouds

until they glow at the edges

like embers of burning coal

shining down on the city below

 

the moon turns a pale gray-pink

obscured by shadow

in the heart of an eclipse

when the earth becomes still

and listens

and her distant cousins Io and Callisto

Moon of the Falling Leaves

Moon of the Red Grass

from on top of the world

and beyond the imagination

sent through the genetic code

from a tower

in the Sea of Tranquility

from a crater

in the Sea of Storms

from a cloud

in the Sea of Vapors

through moonlight

into our dreams

 

secrets of our origin

the civilization that preceded us

and the one before that

until planets collided

and the moon broke away

 

but who can crack the code

who can read the Rosetta Stone

we have only intuition

synchronicity

and the flow of energy

there is no other meaning

 

a face in the moon laughing
