the beginning of the world
from a crack in the earth's crust
deep in the bottom of the sea
the center pushes upward
until it breaks the surface
with tidal waves and a cloud of steam
reaching toward the sky
to shape the sacred land
born from a molten core
and cooled by the island breeze
until the first blade of green springs up
and millennia elapse
as layers of plant life decay into the earth
tree roots push their way down to secure a hold
and establish the forest
the faint color of flowers hide
in the pale green background
and the gray of volcanic rock
Gondwanaland...
the beginning of the world
from a crack in the earth's crust
deep in the bottom of the sea
as sounds of night melt into sounds of morning
and the earth awakens
amid flapping of wings
and the pulse of crickets
a forest dripping green and gray
beneath the canopy layer
through the vines and mist
and the smell of the earth
footprints appear in the mud
and the journey begins
through the forest
to the dark interior
through evolution
seeking the very origin of life itself
seeking the consciousness from which life begins
and the place to which it returns
following the path through
war and peace
love and loss
company and solitude
life and death
to the place where opposites
no longer exist
the end of the world
from a crack in the earth's crust
deep in the bottom of the sea
