As the haze clears and steam rises from the valley
Rabbits play and hide in dew covered grasses
I rise from my roots as memories flow past
Like leaves floating downstream
And the whole of life is a split second of time
A fragment in the expanding universe
My feet grow roots and descend into the ground
My arms grow into branches
And my fingers become twigs
A nest for the birds on my head
And an owl lights on my shoulder
Awaiting the moon
I bend in the wind and turn color in the autumn
Leaves fall at my feet
And I become bare in winter
Forever awaiting rebirth
I breathe and pulse with the heart of the earth
With the sound of the planets
And expand and contract with the cycles of light and dark
And when evening comes and the wind shakes my branches
And strains at my roots
I bend until I can no longer stand
I fall to the earth
To the floor of the forest
To become food and shelter for the animals
And a place for other trees to grow
As the heart of the earth beats on
Without a stop
