Everything You Ever Wanted To Know!! (Links)
Bonzi!  - is still the little dare devil and 'Yahoos' in your hands. She was my first Prairie Dog.
Maxie  - is the sweetest dog you could ever meet and also 'Yahoos' in your hands. She is the cutest little girl prairie dog you could ever see.
Skeeter -  is a very large male prairie dog that came to live with me a few months ago.  He is slowly getting used to being around me and a new home.  I do not have any photos yet of him.
Sassy  and Zipper are two girls that are no longer with me.  Zipper had odontema and Sassy had lymphoma.

PRAIRIE DOGS ARE EXOTIC PETS, PLEASE REMEMBER THAT EXOTIC PETS ARE NOT DOGS OR CATS - THEY REQUIRE SPECIAL CARE.  EXOTICS DO NOT ADAPT TO YOUR LIFESTYLE, YOU MUST ADAPT TO THEIRS!!

My dogs are fed timothy hay free choice as a their staple diet.  They get daily treats in the form of unshelled almonds, grapes, carrots, a low-sugar cereal or very rarely...prepackaged treats made for rabbits.
PDs require a high fiber / low protein diet to maintain a healthy body.  Alfalfa is too high in protein.
DO NOT FEED your prairie dog straight alfalfa, dog food, cat food or any other high protein diet!  More information on how to properly feed your prairie dog is available thru my links page.

Sassy was a very large female with cage nose.  As noted, she was put to sleep in March of 2006 when she had inoperable lymphoma.
RUN! Sassy, RUN!!

The bowl is under the water bottle to catch drips.
The PDs live on my screened in porch in the summer in two very large cages joined together with a PVC tube.  One cage is 10ft X 3ft X 3ft and has an extra top shelf for them to run on,  and the other is 5FT X 2 1/2ft X 3ft with four levels. They have a fan on one section of the cage, cool  places to relax and a large ferret wheel to keep their girlish figures.   In the winter if the temperatures drop below 50 degrees, I bring them inside to throw hay everywhere.

Of course, the cages for inside are considerably smaller then the mansion outside and they hate me for cooping them up.  (I don't really expect them to realize that I am saving them from freezing their cute little butts off)
