Chuck Nix
...Rest in Peace...
Chuck shot himself in the head when he was 20 years old.
Outwardly, he was always the life of the party. On the inside, he was a lonely guy who needed his fathers approval. Playing guitar, drinkin wine and just being a normal teenager of the 60's was not what Mr. Nix had in mind. He was threatening to put his son away.

A happy boy

The picture above is of Chuck soon after he joined The Blue Diamonds. Short hair nicely slicked back just the way his Dad taught him. The picture below of Chuck (cigarette) and me was taken in a dollar photo booth at The Pike in Long Beach shortly before his death. There were of course four total shots but I sniped two of them off and gave them to his Mom at her request. You see she had very few pictures of her only son and my friend Chuck Nix.

Me and Chuck at The Pike in Long Beach

I can only imagine how good of a guitar player Chuck would have become. His death was his own choice but the fact that he could not communicate with a man who was 50 years older than him... and who had ultimate control of his life..... may have been too much for Chuck to take.

Chuck in the upper right corner. ME? posing...

This is the last of the only three pictures I have of him. On this day we drove to the Fender factory loading dock in Fullerton to pick up my first, brand new Precision Bass ($289.). Chuck has his Gibson SG and we're plugged into his Bandmaster. Thing's were looking good for us that day.

If you are getting on in years yourself, and hear that biological clock ticking
just ignore it...
