Dennis' bass drum and tom were made
from flour containers we got from DiCarlos bakery and sawed in half. The
snare and ($6) cymbal were real.
These pictures were were taken by
Elsie Moody in their side yard using a brand new,
high tech modern camera.
It was a Poloriod "Swinger".
We're all wearing our new "V" neck, fake
turtlenecks. A total of 8 shots were taken that day and then split up between
the two familys. I remember being disappointed that the top of my head
was partialy cut off in one of my shots. We put these pictures in a scrapbook
which contained a ton of other stuff that The Surf Bums had collected.
We even wrote our own Bio's which included such treasured information as
our favorite colors, foods, actresses and favorite Monkees. I would kill
to see that scrapbook intact today. As The Surf Bums progressed we even
made a couple of reel to reel recordings. I remember Brad and I singing
"Day Tripper" on one very early tape. You couldn't call it harmony but
you could call it a recording. Years later we took all the tapes from years
and years and put them all on one reel to reel. This tape was our priceless
cronological history which had to be entrusted to a real recording professional.
The tape melted in the back of Dennis'
blue Pinto one hot LA day.
