Wilmington Symphony Orchestra, formerly the University of North Carolina at Wilmington Community Orchestra, is in its 31st season of providing a resident orchestral ensemble to the Wilmington area. A cooperative effort of local musicians and the UNCW Department of Music, the orchestra provides a performance outlet for local musicians and an important cultural resource for Southeastern North Carolina.
The players of the Orchestra are unique combination of professionals and skillful amateurs, of area music teachers, and their most gifted students. Players are selected by audition and inquires are welcome (auditions are generally held in late August and early July). The Wilmington Symphony Orchestra is supported in part by some services provided by the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Additional support is needed for the successful promotion of concerts and to finance guest artists and current expense. If you can help us in our mission to provide Wilmington with its own Symphony Orchestra, please contact the Symphony office for further information. The Wilmington Symphony Orchestra is a member of the American Symphony Orchestra League and the Association of Symphony Orchestras of North Carolina.
