    Very cool site with lots of info that should be known by all synclaholics.
We are a rare breed and you did us proud, especially the part about the thing 
becoming a work horse.  That is so so true.  I always wondered why I liked 
the PSV voices the most.  I think I paid 15 bucks a piece for em from some 
guy in Vermont who said he had enough parts to sink a battleship!  Shhhh... 
Dont tell Brian!

    To own one is to love one, to learn its paculiar habits, to learn how to 
wrestle out a card from the sticky back plane, to question if sunspots make 
it crash, to be humbled that the FBI and Scientology use one, to bask in the 
spendor of fattnes unending, to discover yet another feature only the 
Syncla-Elite know, to pass on the torch to those bright eyed interns that 
become weak at the knees when you show them one of the old vintage binder 
synclav manuals, to savor every momment the time that the rest of the world 
spends stringing togeather a racket of a-la-carte modules that sound like 
plastic, to rejoice that you are pulling as much juice as a sub zero full 
size fridge, to wonder why on earth no other companies aren't knocking off 
that keyboard with all the pretty lights, to understand YOU ARE one of a rare 
breed of humans that venture to toil beyond the ordinary jap crap and lay 
your claim to the fact of the box IS the fattest damn sounding sampler on the 
planet!
    Indeed, to know it is to love it!  We have been blessed.  Amen!

I am a Synthesyst as well from the old days of patch pannels, and have a
version of the Synclavier Sound library (Alas for my Samplecell on an 8100
not much of a comparison!)

I have DREAMED of having a synclavier to play with since first hearing of
them many many years ago :)
Your feedback means much to me indeed! Thankyou for taking the time to let
me know what worked.

I really appreciate the feedback - I really am glad that the info has
helped others!
On the termpower at +7....
This is Bad !
Suggest unplugging each powered "case" one at a time and checking the
supply voltage.
If +5 and + 12 are OK then someplace they pulled power from 12V instead of
5 for termpower (oops)
(IE You need to isolate the device putting out the 7 volts)

<Blasphemous expletive deleted>!! That is a *nice* site, my friend.

I've been a Synclav fan since Tristram Cary let me play with the (now
deceased and dismembered :( ) Synclav at the Elder Conservatorium (in my
home city, Adelaide Australia) back in '83. I had a centre-spread advert
of the Syn from an old ish of 'Keyboard' up on my bedroom wall :-) I
bought any soundtrack vinyl that used it heavily (Wargames, Blue
Thunder, 2010). I've always wanted one, and when I get rich enough one
day I *will* have one, even if music ends up being neurally generated
:-)

You seem to be THE cool guy next to Mitch. My personal support - experiences with the Rolls Royce of the Systems 
is not really what i expected....but then who cares when i have access to people like you. 
I got more info from you and Mitch in a very friendly way than from DEMAS and especially from the 
Synclavier dude in London....i guess Steve Hills is his name. They don't seem to care when your name is not 
Sting, Jacko or whatever. Again thank you and i will contact either you or Mitch about EVERYTHING which is related 
to the Synclav.

Damn!  You could easily record a whole album with the Synclavier and

Hi there.  Wow - what a great thing you have done.  Thanks.  Don't know how you found the time (took me a week just to get around to opening it!).

Anyhow - glad you did this.  Synclav and DTD are still the best sounding boxes around.  Incredible.  It's 10 year old tech that sounds better than "the latest and greatest."  My motto for New England Dig
was "Sounds like a million bucks - costs only half."  But it's true.  Still the best thing around, and it's about time we had a site.

Hi Brandon;

I already noticed it and had a look around there. It's great stuff! I've
learned already many things unknown to me before.
Of course I usually only have to do with very old machines (FM only most of
the time) so the D-to-D things and everything are beyond my knowledge. I
was toying with the idea of getting up a similar site for awhile (mostly
dedicated to the very old models) but so far haven't done anything. On the
other side it's probably much better to have everything in one place. I
tried to compile a card listing of all cards I have come across so far; of
course it's far from being complete.

Brandon,

...I have a lot of respect
for the work that you did to compile all of the great Synclav info on your
site. While I haven't really had to program one in quite a few years due to
the influx of midi based solutions, I miss it like an old friend. I worked
on it for a number of years during college when it was the Synclavier II.
It ran on Rev E. software when I first learned it. I eventually became
hooked and ended up working for nearly 5 years for Frank Zappa at his home
studio in Los Angeles.
By the time I left Zappas, his system grew to 32 poly 32 FM and 32 RAM. I
used to do a lot of resynthesis and timbre frame construction, as well as
massive sampling of course.
Anyway, great work on the site. I'll come back and look at some more of it
when I get some time.

Very impressive and ambitious.

Some of the events in the history are out of chronological order.  I did
see lots of little bits of info that were not quite complete or out of
date, but I'm nowhere near ambitious enough to take on listing them.  Not
these days.  Anyway your initial effort sure beats a stick in the eye!

Let me know when it's official if you'd like me to mention it in the next
"Dear Synclafriends" update.
