Heh, heh, heh. Actually I offered YEARS ago. No takers! Oh well! Their loss! I kicked my wife out of bed so she could read this. Another question i have: There's a rumour going 'round that DEMAS is
The PowerPC PCI card you speak of also works in the DtoD. It just replaces your MAIN ABLE computer. The complete RTP package, SFM, Music Printing Option, 'Q' Page, etc. runs on the Mac via a software ABLE translator. This is the same way SoftWindows runs on your mac. It is a software translator. All functions should remain the same accross both the Synclavier and the DtoD; even if you have a DtoD slaved to a Sync. Demas now has the option of writing software audio "plug-ins" that will work just like the ones you would see on a ProTools. The speedy PCI interface and PowerMacs are obviously capable. It is just a matter of "when" not necessarily "how". It has been expressed that Demas likes to come up with new ideas every day and then quickly brush them under the rug. If a customer asks if such-and-such feature is available, they quickly pull it back out and say "we're working on it" and then sweep it back in. As to a stand-alone DtoD card for the Mac, I dunno. There are a number of reasons this would not be a good idea: the first is ProTools, second- MFX3, third- Sonic Solutions, fourth- next to zero market penetration, fifth- cost. I'll stop here. If Demas makes a DtoD on a card they can certainly make a Synclavier on a card - almost the same exact thing, they just perform different functions. There is the ability to make reduced-height towers since the PCI card replaces a lot of stuff. No ABLE, sequencer memory, disk drives, 64k card, timers, etc. But the cost to manufacture new hardware still costs the same as it has in the past. Remember, this isn't mass market. Some owners are having their existing machines chopped (Mitch said you were asking him about this, let me know how it goes. Bob Mithoff and Peter Buffet are also asking the same thing ). There is also the possibility of making a thin "Button Panel" like on the V/P Keyboard. That way you could use any MIDI keyboard controller and just lay it on top for complete Synclavier control. The future of the Synclavier and its support/expansion really rests on us making our voices heard. If I hear of any new news in these matters, I will post it. Thanx for your help Claude
No problem. I enjoy my Email immensely. Brandon Amison
