My Friend Mia

Diary of Claira, Girl of Privilege, 1853

This is Erin's 1999 entry to Scholastic's Dear America contest. Dear America explores American history through the fictional experiences of young girls as recorded in their diary. Erin's diary is that of Claira, a privileged girl growing up in a slave holder's household. She befriends Mia, a slave girl her age.


Morning

Erin's 2001 5th grade Gifted and Talented class had a fun assignment aimed at helping cure writer's block for poetry. Pick one of a set of four words from a total of 100 sets. Use these four words in your poem.

D.A.R.E. Essay

In 5th grade, CCISD students are educated using the Drug Awareness Resistance Education program. At the end of the program, students write essays. Erin was chosen to read her essay at the D.A.R.E. graduation program.


Riding a Mountain!

Erin's Aunt Leslie and Uncle Phil were married in Breckenridge Colorado in July, 1998. While there she rode the green ski slopes on the SuperSlide. She picked this experience for her 3rd grade family writing assignment, the Family Backpack Story.
