NEW OPERATING SYSTEM SUPPORT:

MacOS X FULLY supported. MacOS 9 and all current Windows OS's are fully supported as well. [Editor's note: Version 6.10 does not run on MacOS 8.6 and earlier.]

COOL NEW VISUAL STUFF:

X-Plane now has land-use data for the entire planet! Forests, farm fields, desert, cities, are all accurately placed, World-wide. Go into the "Resources/bitmaps/terrain" folder to completely customize the entire setup if you like. It is very easy and insanely powerful.
Over 400 MEGabytes of land-use data and 6.5 GIGabytes of elevation data went into generating this new scenery. 21,578 elevation-maps were used. Every major road, stream, railroad track, powerline, and even nature trail tracked by the USGS! The new database includes: This is over FOURTEEN MILLION (14,294,324, to be exact) new visual-reference datapoints for your flying in the new 610 scenery package! These huge datasets came from the USGS, FAA, NOAA, AND NIMA.
In addition to this, there are over 5 million seawater/lake coastline data points. This makes VFR navigation accurate, complete with highwways to land on in the event of an engine failure... but watch out for the cars driving down the highways... the cars in the slowlan are goibng about 55, and the cars in the passing lane are doing about 70... you will have to merge with traffic as you glide down after the engine failure.

NOTE: THE 6.10 DOWNLOAD HAS THIS SCENERY FOR THE SO-CAL AREA, LIKE ALL DOWNLOADS ALWAYS HAVE. WORLD-WIDE HI-DEF SCENERY WILL BE AVAIL FOR PURCHASE.

New totally customizeable sky and lighting system. See the "Resources/bitmaps/ skycolors.bmp file. This is a simple bitmap you can edit to customize all the sky, lighting, and water colors in the sim!
The trim wheels in the cockpit are nicely animated when you adjust the trim... really lets you know they are moving.
New graphic relief maps in the output menu. They look really nice.
"Dirty" runway lights (lights of varying intensity) when you have "textured runway lights" turned on in the rendering options screen...This really increases the feeling of size!
Water shines in the sun in the late afternoons... really looks wet!
 

FLIGHT MODEL IMPROVEMENTS

Variable center of gravity in the "Weight" window in X-Plane! Start experimenting with stability and control issues at various CG's!
Ridge-lift! While you will be LOOKING FOR IT for the gliders, you will get it in the powered planes, too, below the "thermals" altitude... so watch out!
Jet gyrocopters. Carter-Copters is researching this technology.. you get the benefit!

NEW COCKPIT EQUIPMENT FOR THE INSTRUMENT CROWD:

Flight Management System. It is a new cockpit instrument at the end of the instrument list in Plane-Maker. Drop it into any plane.
More cockpit instruments. See the end of the instrument list in Plane-Maker.
More accurate airliner EFIS moving maps to show your new FMS flight plan.
Hydraulic pressure Master-Caution.
A "test" button for all those annunciators.

AERO-TECH FOR THE AERO-TECH CROWD:

The craft will now only fuel-dump from selected tank when doing fuel-dumps. This is how military craft always do it.
Autopilot operation improved: Altitude, speed, vvi, and heading all auto-set when that mode is engaged.
Different retract times for each landing gear, as requested.
FADEC failure option for helicopters. See the failure screens for this.
Additional failure mode - engine driven fuel pump failure: Don't forget to turn on fuel pumps for your next takeoff and landing!
Thunderstorms are now more randomized (less-patterned) and the same on all computers when you are playing networked.
Flight-model revealed in the "Special" menu: "Show flight model forces" option.
Variable dihedral wings in flight, for craft like the XB-70 Valkyrie, or any other experiments you care to try with changing the dihedral in flight.

COMPU-TECH STUFF FOR THE COMPU-TECH CROWD:

"Rendering Options" window shows the VRAM situation... This helps in seeing how much VRAM you need when setting resolutions, etc.
New custom object format draws custom objects much faster! (The old objects still work though!) Now you have only ONE texture for the entire OBJ file, using a different part of the texture for each polygon. This allows custom objects to be many times faster than before! See the KSBD example.
You can send a new UDP "USEL" message to UNselect data for output as well as the "DSEL" message to select it. Good for sending messages to X-Plane to control what data you are getting from it.
YOU CAN SET THE PORT TO SEND AND RECEIVE UDP DATA. This allows you to run add-ons on the same machine that exchange data with x-plane.
For add-on writers: UDP control of each plane is posisble by sending in the snapshot for that particular aircraft. Now you can control every plane in the sky!

GENERAL FEATURES

World-Maker lets you select from the default texures as well as any custom textures to get the textures you want where you want them.
Ground rumble sounds when rolling, as requested.
Serious load-time and frame-rate optimizations to get faster load and higher framerates.
Air-to-air refueling capability as an in-flight challenge... see the "Location" menu.
Start up with the engines already running or not... make the selection in the hardware options screen.
Better PFC support.
