If you are one of our American listeners, we hope you've just spent yesterday giving thanks with family and friends. The holiday season is upon us, and whether you celebrate Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, the winter solstice or any other holiday, it's a great time to do something for those less fortunate than yourself. There are lots of ways to make a difference. Contact the food bank or homeless shelter in your area to see if you can donate food, supplies, or your time. Here in the Los Angeles area, the best way to find an organization you can help is to call the 24 hour LA Infoline at (800) 339-6993. If you spend lots of time on the Internet, (and if you're listening to us now online, that might just mean you,) there are other ways you can help. Check out sites like greatergood.com and the other sites they operate: thehungersite.com and therainforestsite.com . At the hunger and rain forest sites, you can go to their sites once a day, click on a button, and organizations sponsoring the sites that day will donate food or free land. The food is distributed via America's Second Harvest, Mercy Corps and the United Nations World Food Programme. The free land is distributed via The Nature Conservancy. Clicking these buttons costs you nothing. If you plan to shop online, all three sites have sponsorship from over 100 of the leading online merchants, including Amazon.com, Priceline, Lands End and many more. If you plan to shop any of those sites, consider logging into them via Greater Good or the Hunger or Rainforest sites. They'll arrange to have the sponsoring companies donate up to 15% of your purchase to go to one of over 3000 charities that you can designate. If you know of other ways that listeners can make a difference that you'd like to share, drop us an email at wwjames@earthlink.net. Put the words "make a difference" in the subject line.

Authors Robert Jordan, George R.R. Martin, Dan Simmons and Caleb Carr are all recent or upcoming guests on Hour 25. They are all currently on tour, so if you'd like to chance meet any of them, check out our Authors on Tour page to see if any of your favorite authors will be signing at bookstores in your town.

If you have something you want to call to the attention of the Group Mind, email it to the Hour 25 Calendar from the link on our Home Page or click here wwjames@earthlink.net to send us an email. Please remember to put the words Hour 25 Calendar in the subject line.
