I have placed in this room the text of what the NPC's (Non-Playing Characters) have said to me. (Need to know what a NPC is. It is in the NeoQuest Manual)
This page contains most of the sayings by the NPCs. It may reveal more than you want to know. You have been warned, try to only use this knowledge to remember what they have said to you.

** beware I told you to find the way to the NPCs yourself. These do not exist I was just using parts of the map that are not used in the game
Morax Dorangis says, "Greetings, Hydroxian."
Say, "What do you do here?"
Morax Dorangis says, "I'm an armorsmith here in Neopia City. I'm not very advanced, though... I can only make a couple different kinds of armor: Energy Shields and Cloth Robes."
Say, "Can you make me an Energy Shield?"
Morax Dorangis says, "Certainly. All you need to do is bring me some things: a glowing stone, a chunk of metal, and a small yellow gem. Some of the monsters near the city might have them, so you should go hunting. Bring me those items, and I'll make you an Energy Shield."
Say, "Can you make me Cloth Robes?"
Morax Dorangis says, "Certainly. I need a few items, though. Bring me a glowing stone, a plains lupe pelt, and a blue thread. Some of the monsters near the city might have them, so you should go hunting. Bring me those items, and I'll make you a set of Cloth Robes."
Choras Tillie says, "Good day, Hydroxian."
Say, "What do you do here?"
Choras Tillie says, "I am a master armorsmith. You may have met Morax Dorangis elsewhere in the city? He was my apprentice, but got too big for his britches and now he thinks he can strike out on his own. Good luck, I say!"
Say, "What kind of armor can you make?"
Choras Tillie says, "I can make all sorts of armor, but my two specialties are Mirrored Force Fields and Magic Robes."
Say, "Can you make me a Mirrored Force Field?"
Choras Tillie says, "Of course I can, you silly person! You just need to bring me some items. I need a piece of glass, a large one, preferably not cracked; I also need a glowing stone, and a lodestone. Oh, and also a tiny gem, preferably made of obsidian."
Say, "Where can I find the items?"
Choras Tillie says, "All of the items for the force field are found on creatures in the Dank Cave, in the Hills of Lupe to the northwest. Ghouls, trolls, and the more powerful skeletons, that sort of thing. Oh, except for the glowing stone, which can be found carried by the lupes and cougars that roam the plains to the west."
Say, "Can you make me a Magic Robe?"
Choras Tillie says, "Of course I can, you silly person! You just need to bring me some items. I need the pelt of a cave lupe, and try not to cut too many holes in it. I also need a glowing stone, and a stretch of rotted cloth. And, lastly, a tiny gem, preferably made of obsidian."
Say, "Where can I find the items?"
Choras Tillie says, "The items for the robe are found on creatures in the Dank Cave, in the Hills of Lupe to the northwest. Wild lupes, ghouls, trolls, powerful skeletons... horrid things. The glowing stones can be found on lupes and cougars that roam the Plains of Neopia to the immediate west of here."
Lummock Sendent says, "Hi there, Hydroxian!"
Say, "What do you do here?"
Lummock Sendent says, "I sell some basic magic wands that you might be interested in. There are five wands: the Red Wand, which focuses the power of Fire Magic; the Blue Wand, which is for Ice Magic; the Yellow Wand, for Shock Magic; the Black Wand, which is for Spectral Magic, and finally the White Wand, for Life Magic. If you bring me some things, I'll give you one of the wands."
Say, "What things?"
Lummock Sendent says, "Well, you seem pretty new here, so I'll make it easy. I need four things: a gray lupe fang, a grizzly bear tooth, a dire lupe pelt, and a black bear paw. Bring me two at a time and I'll give you one of the wands.
For the Red Wand, give me a gray lupe fang and a grizzly bear tooth.
Bring me a gray lupe fang and a dire lupe pelt, and I'll give you a Blue Wand
If you want a Yellow Wand, give me a black bear paw and a grizzly bear tooth
If it's a Black Wand you're after, bring me a black bear paw and a dire lupe pelt
And lastly, if you want a White Wand, bring me a gray lupe fang and black bear paw
Say, "Where can I find bearogs and lupes?"
Lummock Sendent says, "Gray lupes, black bears, grizzly bears, and dire lupes roam the Hills of Jub to the northwest. You might need to go pretty far west to find them all..."
Leirobas says, "What the heck do you want?"
Say, "Who are you?"
Leirobas says, "I'm Leirobas! Don't you know that? Kids these days..."
You say, "What do you do here
Leirobas says, "As if you don't know. Fine, I'll play along. I collect components for various magic spells, usually precious bodily fluids from creatures. Lately it's been difficult, though, what with the giant creatures rampaging all over the desert, which is where I usually get most of my stuff. I don't need it so badly that I'm willing to risk getting killed for it!"
Say, "What kind of stuff do you need?"
Leirobas says, "Why are you so interested? All right, all right... I need four things: the blood of a giant spider, venom from a desert cobra, some iguana spit, and some sand that's been treated with the blood of a mummy -- it'll be crystallized. Bring me that, and I can use it to enchant myself some new robes. Then you can have this one I'm wearing now. Now, off with you! I'm busy."
Say, "What are the Jewels of Power?"
Leirobas says, "Where did you hear that name?!" Leirobas quickly looks around and shuts the door to his house. "Don't ever say that out loud... Jewels of Power... I can't believe it. Who told you about them?"
Say, "A wizard named Erick, in the Temple of Roo."
Leirobas says, "Erick... oh my... he's still alive? Astonishing." Leirobas sits down warily, his sharp eyes focused on you. "Erick was an ancient wizard. Legend has it that he was trapped in the Temple of Roo when it was sealed up... but you probably know nothing of this. Well, you don't need to know. But if Erick thinks you should know about the Jewels of Power..." He pauses, looking at you warily. "I will tell you more about the jewels, but first you need to prove your worthiness. I need a piece of living crystal in order to complete a spell I'm working on; you can chip a piece off of one of those crystalline golems that roam the Temple. Bring it to me and I will tell you more about the Jewels of Power."
Say, "I got you your crystal. Tell me more about the Jewels of Power."
Leirobas says, "Yes, you did." He sighs and goes to his bookcase, pulling a large, dusty tome from it and placing the book on the table. "The Jewels were ancient artifacts, used to focus the different kinds of magic in order to imbue weapons with their powers. There were five of them: the Blazing Jewel, the Chilling Jewel, the Stunning Jewel, the Radiant Jewel, and the Growing Jewel, corresponding to each of the types of magic. Ages ago, though, a mad wizard whose name is lost to time, captured the Jewels and cast them into a magical vortex, from which they could not be retrieved. The Jewels can be summoned using a spell that I have recently rediscovered, though I do not have the components to do so. If you collect them for me, I will summon the appropriate Jewel."
Say, "What components do you need?"
Leirobas says, "Each of the five Jewels requires a glowing stone as an energy source, and two gemstones to specify the particular Jewel. The Blazing Jewel, for fire magic, needs a tiny garnet and a ruby. The Chilling Jewel, for ice magic, needs a sapphire and a tiny lapis. The Stunning Jewel, for shock magic, needs a topaz and a tiny amber; and the Radiant Jewel, for spectral magic, needs an onyx and a tiny obsidian. Finally, the Growing Jewel, for life magic, requires a tiny beryl and an emerald. Bring me a glowing stone and the appropriate two gems, and I can summon the corresponding Jewel of Power... I think. I hear that the undead servants of the Temple of Roo to the south, collect the larger jewels -- rubies, sapphires, and so on -- and the tiny gems, well, you might want to ask Eleus Batrin about that. He collects small gemstones as a hobby, and might know where to get tiny garnets, lapis, amber, et cetera."
Mokti says, "Hello! Welcome to Swamp Edge City. My name is Mokti!"
Say, "What can you tell me about this area?"
Mokti says, "Well, this is Swamp Edge City, as I said... not a very creative name, since we're right on the edge of the Great Swamp. Thankfully the creatures that live out there don't come very far out of the swamp itself, so we're safe here. There's not a whole lot of people who live here, really, so there's not much to tell... to the south are some grasslands and then the Desert of Roo. I once went into the Desert of Roo to see if I could get to the other side, but even though I was well-provisioned with food and water, after three days of crossing the sands, there was no end in sight, so I turned back. I've heard that there are some mountains and forests south of the desert, but the desert could go on forever for all I know."
Say, "Can you tell me more about the desert?"
Mokti says, "Well, sure. It's... well, it's a desert. Lots of sand and rock and nasty creatures. There weren't so many when I tried to cross it, but since then I've heard that it's overrun with giant critters and horrible undead fiends. Which is too bad, because I was trying to collect some things from there, but now it's too dangerous."
Say, "What were you collecting?"
Mokti says, "Well, I've always been interested in lizards and snakes and spiders and other kinds of creepy-crawlies, and with the rumors of giant beasties out there... well, let me just say that I'd love to be able to get a closer look at them. Dead, of course. What I'm looking for is a leg and a pincer from some of the huge spiders, a desert cobra fang -- watch out, they're poisonous -- and an iguana's eye. If you can bring me all that, I'll give you this old hunk of junk generator here. I don't need it."
Say, "Are there any cities to the south?"
Mokti says, "Cities? Well... I heard that to the south, past the desert, are some mazelike mountains, and nestled somewhere in them is a small village, but I don't even know how to get to the mountains, let alone the town. Rumor has it that the town is high on a cliff, and so it's sunny there all the time."
Say, "I ran into your brother Rikti in the Dank Cave."
Mokti says, "You saw Rikti?! Oh, I'm glad to hear he's all right... hopefully he'll come home soon. Thank you so much for bringing me the message, I've been so afraid for him ever since he left."
Say, "Why did Rikti leave?"
Mokti says, "Oh, you know how little brothers are... he wanted adventure, excitement. Bah! A Swamp Edge citizen craves not these things. He is reckless. Well, I hope he comes home soon, anyway."
A note says, "I have explored all that I can down here; there is nothing more to be learned. So I leave this note for any others who may venture down here in the future.
The Archmagus of Roo, an ancient wizard, has been trapped in these dungeons for ages. He is in a room in the southeast of the dungeon. It is locked, however, and the key is held by one of his servants, who is locked in a separate room. The key to THAT room, in turn, is held by yet another servant... in all, there are six keys that must be found before the Archmagus can be reached. The first key is held by a ghastly initiate, in the room immediately ahead of you. Get the key from him, and travel to the northeast corner of the dungeon, where you will find the next key. From there, you will need to travel to the southernmost room, and then to the room in the northwest, the room to the far east of here, and then the central room to acquire the key that will let you reach the Archmagus.
I do not know whether the Archmagus will be receptive to visitors, but somehow I doubt it. Even after all this time, he is still immensely powerful, so you must be cautious. Good luck, adventurer.
-- Udalin Stonebreaker"
Erick says, "Eh? Who's that? Who's there?"
Say, "My name is Hydroxian."
Erick says, "Oh... uh... well hello... I'm glad you found me... I don't suppose you'd be willing to help an old wizard, would you?"
You say, "What kind of help?"
Erick says, "Uh... well... ages ago... when this place was... was attacked, in a terrible battle... they put a shield over this place, trapping the inhabitants... we cannot escape... uh... perhaps... perhaps you could find something for me... I could escape if I had it... please... please help..."
Say, "What do you need me to find?"
Erick says, "Need... I need... a carved oaken staff... from the giants who roam the plains to the south of the Desert of Roo. And... and a headpiece... one of the Jewels of Power, to... to sit atop the staff... and one last thing. An ancient artifact... the Coruscating Gem... to focus the power and create the final... the final staff. Seek the archmagus here... he has... he has the gem."
Say, "What are the Jewels of Power?"
Erick says, "The Jewels... the Jewels of Power are... are lost to time. But there is one who knows... who can tell you about them. Seek out Leirobas, to the north..."
Mr. Irgo says, "Hmm... You look suitable for a task I have in mind."
Say, "Who are you?"
Mr. Irgo says, "My name is Mr. Irgo. I sell valuable pieces of monsters on the black market; living gemstones, body parts of certain beasts, and so on."
Say, "What task do you have in mind?"
Mr. Irgo says, "I need you to collect things for me. The first is a set of gems, or rather, pieces of the living rock creatures that inhabit these caves. I need a piece of agate, a piece of chrysolite, and a piece of serpentine. If you bring me these, I will chip off a fragment of each and create a new piece of armor for you: an energy absorber."
The second set of things I need are pieces of the drakonids who live here: an eye, a hide, and a heart. Bring me these and I can draw some of their magical power away to make you an robe of protection.
Denethrir the Scholar says, "Um... er... oh! I didn't see you there. Hello."
Say, "Who are you?"
Denethrir the Scholar says, "Er... um... oh yes. My name is Denethrir; I am a scholar studying these ancient ruins."
Say, "Isn't that dangerous? There are monsters everywhere!"
Denethrir the Scholar says, "Uh... danger? Oh! Yes. Well, no. The monsters, you see, they don't come up here from the dungeons or down from the tower above, so, there's no monsters on this floor at all! This I learned shortly after I arrived here from Neopia City... These ruins here have stood for centuries, but no one has ever ventured out to see what they were about. Yes. Hmm. I decided to come visit, to see if anything could be learned. So I stepped into the dungeons, but various undead creatures attacked me, and I fled upward instead. Now there are monsters on the ground floor, so I can't really leave. But that's fine, because there's plenty of books and papers here, magically preserved somehow, that I can spend years studying. I have even learned the ancient secrets of the Gaia Wands!"
Say, "What are the Gaia Wands?"
Say, "What else do you know about these ruins?"
Denethrir the Scholar says, "Well... they are ancient. I know that much. Possibly going back as far as the Great Empire, ruled by the Circle of Twelve. But I haven't been able to tell whether these ruins were actually a part of the Great Empire or not. The tomes on this floor are mostly scientific works, more focused on biology than anything else actually; I haven't found anything about history, or culture, or language. It's possible there are other people who know more about these ruins than I do, but I don't know where you'd find them -- surely they couldn't survive amongst all those monsters in the dungeons!"
At any rate, I don't know if you'd even be able to explore up above. I did, once... I came to a locked door that I couldn't open, and I couldn't find a key up here. And I read in a journal that I found that there are three locked doors, so you'll need to find three separate keys to get through them! I think the keys are down in the dungeons. You should go back down there and look for them.
Say, "What are the Gaia Wands?"
Denethrir the Scholar says, "The Gaia Wands were a type of magical weapon devised by the inhabitans of these ruins, ages ago... there were five kinds of Gaia Wand, but all of them have been long since destroyed. But I have devised... I think... devised a system for recreating these wands. The Volcano, Glacier, Storm, Mountain, and Nature wands are very powerful, and I would be intrigued to see what they are like."
Denethrir the Scholar says, "Um... hrm. Let me look at my books... ah yes. The Volcano Wand would -- it's for Fire Magic, by the way -- well, the exact components can't be acquired, as the beasts that provided them died out long ago. But you could get close enough by bringing me the armored stinger from a scorpion, a lion's mane, a gauntlet from one of those enraged jungle warrior types, a glowing stone, and... well, all it says about the last item is, `The mystical staff known as Ni-tas.' How odd."
Denethrir the Scholar says, "Um... hrm. Let me look at my books... ah yes. The Glacier Wand needs -- it's for Ice Magic, by the way -- well, the exact components can't be acquired, as the beasts that provided them died out long ago. But you could get close enough by bringing me a spirit totem, which is something a shaman would use; the fang of an iguana, a pair of vambraces from one of those enraged jungle warrior types, a glowing stone, and... well, all it says about the last item is, `The mystical staff known as Ni-tas.' How odd."
Denethrir the Scholar says, "Um... hrm. Let me look at my books... ah yes. The Storm Wand, it -- it's for Shock Magic, by the way -- that is... well, the exact components can't be acquired, as the beasts that provided them died out long ago. But you could get close enough by bringing me a killer mosquito wing, the discarded skin of a python, a breastplate from one of those enraged jungle warrior types, a glowing stone, and... well, all it says about the last item is, `The mystical staff known as Ni-tas.' How odd."
Denethrir the Scholar says, "Um... hrm. Let me look at my books... ah yes. The Mountain Wand would -- it's for Spectral Magic, by the way -- well, the exact components can't be acquired, as the beasts that provided them died out long ago. But you could get close enough by bringing me a scorpion's chitinous carapace, one of those wooden shields the elder shamen use, a helm from one of those enraged jungle warrior types, a glowing stone, and... well, all it says about the last item is, `The mystical staff known as Ni-tas.' How odd."
Denethrir the Scholar says, "Um... hrm. Let me look at my books... ah yes. The Nature Wand would -- it's for Life Magic, by the way -- well, the exact components can't be acquired, as the beasts that provided them died out long ago. But you could get close enough by bringing me the claw of one of those vicious jungle beasts, the tooth of a lion -- oh my, that sounds dangerous -- a set of shoulder pauldrons from one of those enraged jungle warrior types, a glowing stone, and... well, all it says about the last item is, `The mystical staff known as Ni-tas.' How odd."
Say, "Do you know anything about this medallion I found?"
Denethrir the Scholar says, "Medallion? Oh, let me see... hmm... very interesting. Some of the symbols on it are recognizable, but I can't really decipher it. And it doesn't look familiar; I don't think it matches the description of any artifacts I've read about. Perhaps you should take this to Eleus Batrin in Neopia City. He might have a better idea what it is."
Korabric says, "Unbelievable! I had never expected anyone to reach me. I've been locked up here for ages
You say, "Who are you?"
Korabric says, "My name is... is... Korabric. I had to remember, it's been so, so long since I even thought about it..."
Say, "What are you doing here?"
Korabric says, "I... I was once the master of this place. Ages ago. Ages... it has been a long, long time. We did... research, here. Studying. Learning, about life, the world... but we made a mistake."
Say, "What mistake?"
Korabric says, "We... well, we had a practice of bringing foreign plants and animals here for study and understanding... we found some native pygmy tribes in the jungles to the distant south, and brought them here. They were peaceful, at first. They built a few small villages in the jungle we had grown here. But over time, they became aggressive and hostile. We were able to deal with them, as we were vastly more powerful... until one of our researchers went mad and started helping them."
Say, "How did he help them?"
Korabric says, "He... it was horrible. He created all sorts of terrible, violent monsters and let them loose down in the caverns. You see, the bottom level of this place was still being built when he went mad. We were expanding to make room for more students, more researchers, more equipment. We had excavated caves and had discovered a huge underground lake."
Say, "I saw the lake. The whole area was infested with giant lizards and lizard-men."
Korabric says, "Yes, that makes sense. The researcher was obsessed with snakes and lizards and other reptiles. Normally we would use small pools of water, no bigger than a pond, to grow and give life to our creations. But he used the entire lake, and was able to create hundreds of monsters at a time. At first he experimented with insects and arthropods, like buzzes and scorpions, breeding them bigger and bigger. Later he mutated his precious lizards and turned them into giant monsters."
Say, "There was a giant lizard-man on an island in the center of the lake."
Korabric says, "A... a lizardman? What was his name?"
Say, "His name was Rollay Scaleback."
Korabric says, "Rollay! Amazing! That was the name of the researcher... well, he wasn't Scaleback before, he was just Rollay. A lizard-man... yes, that was his goal, to make himself into a lizard. I only found out about it by accident, after he went mad and the giant lizards started crawling out of the lake. I suppose he eventually succeeded in turning himself into one."
Say, "What about the pygmies in the jungle?"
Korabric says, "Oh, right, the pygmies. Some of them volunteered to be turned into armor-clad warriors, and Rollay did so... in exchange for them serving as soldiers to help him take over the rest of the facility. You see, we fought back; Rollay was only a minor researcher at first, not very powerful in the ways of magic. The other senior researchers and I easily outmatched him... but we were hampered by our desire to see a peaceful resolution, and by the time we realized that Rollay was bent on destroying us all, he had grown in power immensely, and had already created hundreds of giant lizards to do his bidding, as well as begun his process of empowering the pygmies."
By the time he began to take over the facility, I realized we couldn't fight him any more, so I magically locked myself here in my study, and placed two more magic locks on doors farther down the tower. Rollay had the key to my study but he couldn't get past the other two doors, and the keys to those doors were stolen by a pygmy chief named Kreai who rebelled against Rollay, and a mutated giant pygmy named Gors.
Say, "I fought and defeated Kreai. He had the first key."
Say, "I fought and defeated Gors. He had the second key."
Say, "Rollay was carrying this medallion when I defeated him."
Korabric says, "Ah... you are indeed powerful. Kreai was the pygmy chief who struck the deal with Rollay, but later betrayed him and took over the upper dungeon level."
Korabric says, "Gors was a mighty foe, and a vicious one. I'm glad you defeated him. Did he still have the Staff of Ni-tas with him?"
Say, "Yes. What is the Staff of Ni-tas?"
Korabric says, "The Staff of Ni-tas was a powerful magical artifact, controlled by the Great Empire. It was a focus point for magical energy, tremendously powerful. For some unknown reason, the Circle of Twelve brought it here right after Rollay went mad, but instead of using it against him, somehow Rollay ended up possessing the staff and using it against us! I still don't know why the Circle would have done that to us. But they're all long since dead, I imagine."
Say, "I have fought and defeated one of the Circle members, a wizard named Xantan."
Korabric says, "You defeated Xantan?! Not likely! Unless... unless he had lost his powers. Xantan used to be the leader of the Circle of Twelve, but rumor had it that he was betrayed and deposed by the other Circle members shortly after Rollay took over here. So if that is the case, then I suppose he might have been weakened enough for the likes of you to defeat him."
It's been hard for me to get information; I've been locked up here for years, though once I did venture down past the monsters in the tower. I ran into Pomanna -- she used to be the chief cook here, though she was always a little crazy -- and tried to get some information from her, but she was out of her mind."
Say, "Pomanna wants you to help her escape."
Korabric says, "She does? Well... now that Kreai, Gors, and Rollay have been defeated, I should easily be able to make my way past the remaining monsters. Perhaps I will go help her. But I must also thank you for rescuing me from this horrible place. Perhaps it can once again be turned into an institution of learning and science. That may take some time, though; there are still many monsters here."
You say, "Rollay was carrying this medallion when I defeated him."
Korabric says, "That is a strange-looking thing... it's a bit rusty, isn't it? I suppose it could be some kind of magic item, although I don't recognize it. Perhaps there are other scholars who might know what it is. My specialty was, obviously, biology, not other kinds of magic."
Say, "What are you going to do now?"
Korabric says, "I'll have to get started flushing all the monsters out of here, now that you've destroyed the three most powerful. I can't thank you enough for your help."
Pomanna says, "What do you want?!"
Say, "Who are you?"
Pomanna says, "Who am I? Who am I, that's a good question. Not like you really care. I'm Pomanna, what's it to you?"
Say, "What are you doing down here?"
Pomanna says, "Minding my own business! Maybe that's what you should be doing. Of course with all these lizards around, you got to keep your eyes open."
Say, "What do you know about the lizards
Pomanna says, "They scrounge around, out in the caves. I don't know where they come from, but there always seem to be more and more of them... on the other side of the lake, I once thought I saw a lizard that looked like a man. But that's crazy... just like that old lunatic Korabric who I met once."
Say, "Who is Korabric?"
Pomanna says, "He's an old man... I only met him once, when I first found this wretched place. Pah! He said he knew the secrets of this place, why it was like this, but that he was powerless to stop it. The old fool.
Say, "I have defeated the lizard Rollay."
Pomanna says, "You have?! Oh my... he was a scary one, that giant lizard-man... But one time, I heard him talking to his other lizard friends... he said something about `the lake producing more of us'... He was probably crazy, too! But there was that one time..."
Say, "What one time?"
Pomanna says, "What one time?! What do you mean, `What one time?'?! The time that the lake out there turned green and hundreds of lizard-men came swimming out of it. How could I forget that? Thankfully, they didn't come in here... but that was incredibly frightening! I wish Korabric was here..."
Say, "Why do you want Korabric? I thought you said he was a fool."
Pomanna says, "Well... he is a fool, but he did seem to know what he was talking about. When he wasn't talking crazy, that is. He said that this place used to be a research center, and they created new creatures here... but something happened, something terrible. One of the researchers went mad and created all sorts of monsters, and they took over this place. But here's the crazy part. Korabric said that HE was one of the original researchers, and when the mad one was wreaking havoc, Korabric locked himself in his study on the top floor and put himself into a magical sleep for thousands of years. I told you it was crazy!"
Pomanna takes a deep breath and closes her eyes for a moment, then opens them. "I do wish he would come back. He could get me out of here."
Go to Top
Tylix says, "Ah! You look like a reasonable person. Perhaps we can talk."
Say, "Who are you?"
Say, "I have defeated the giant Gors."
Tylix says, "I am Tylix. I was a student of Margoreth... but I haven't seen her in some time. I think she's somewhere else in this accursed dungeon. I myself have been trapped in this... well I guess it's a classroom."
Say, "What kind of classroom is this?"
Tylix says, "It's hard to say... there isn't much in here aside from the table and chairs. I found a few dusty old books, though... biology texts. I'm not much of a scholar yet, I'm still learning... but I was able to make out a few words. The books talked about `experimenting' and `new kinds.' I get the impression they were creating new creatures here, though I haven't found where they might have done that -- everything I've seen down here has been old classrooms, except for the garden outside that corridor."
Say, "There's a garden here? But we're underground."
Tylix says, "That's what I thought when I saw it. Yes, it's an underground garden, right outside the hall. Grass, plants, ponds, walkways... it's amazing. I don't know how they got all those plants to grow, and keep growing for all this time, without sunlight! That would be amazing to learn, wouldn't it? There might be something in the big hall beyond the garden, but I'm a bit frightened to go over there."
Say, "Why are you frightened?"
Tylix says, "I've heard some... strange sounds coming out of there. Ever since that I haven't left this classroom. I even once glimpsed a... monster. I mean a REAL monster, who makes these knights and pygmies running around look like nothing. He was huge, and wielding a great glowing staff."
Say, "I have defeated the giant Gors."
Tylix says, "You defeated that brute? Excellent. Maybe now I can find a way out of here. Assuming these warriors and pygmies get out of the way. There always seem to be more and more of them roaming about."
Say, "More of them?"
Tylix says, "Yes, more. Every day I've been down here, their numbers have increased. It's a miracle they haven't found me yet. I don't know where they're all coming from, though I overheard one of them talking once. He said something about `the lake' and `growing new ones', but I've never seen any lake down here... though if they can keep plants alive for hundreds of years with no sunlight, I've no doubt they could make an underground lake if they had to!"
Eleus Batrin says, "Greetings, Hydroxian."
"What do you do here?"
"I'm the weaponsmith here in Neopia City. I can make a variety of rod-type weapons, one from each of the five Spheres of Magic. I also know a fair bit about Neopia City and its surrounding environs."
"What are the five Spheres?"
"The five Spheres are Fire Magic, Ice Magic, Shock Magic, Spectral Magic, and Life Magic."
"Can you make me a Fire Magic weapon?"
"Certainly I can make you a Fire Magic weapon. Specifically, a Gold Wand. I need some special items: a tiny garnet gemstone, a rod made of pyrite, a glowing stone, and one other item... the Ring of Xantan."
"Can you make me an Ice Magic weapon?"
"Certainly I can make you an Ice Magic weapon. Specifically, a Steel Wand. I need some special items: a tiny lapis gemstone, a rod made of pewter, a glowing stone, and one other item... the Ring of Xantan."
"Can you make me a Shock Magic weapon?"
"Certainly I can make you a Shock Magic weapon. Specifically, a Bronze Wand. I need some special items: a tiny amber gemstone, a rod made of copper, a glowing stone, and one other item... the Ring of Xantan."
"Can you make me a Spectral Magic weapon?"
"Certainly I can make you a Spectral Magic weapon. Specifically, an Iron Wand. I need some special items: a tiny obsidian gemstone, a rod made of ore, a glowing stone, and one other item... the Ring of Xantan."
"Can you make me a Life Magic weapon?"
"Certainly I can make you a Life Magic weapon. Specifically, a Silver Wand. I need some special items: a tiny beryl gemstone, a rod made of aluminum, a glowing stone, and one other item... the Ring of Xantan."
"What is the Ring of Xantan?"
"Xantan was an ancient and powerful wizard who lived a thousand years ago. He was the leader of a group called the Circle of Twelve, wizards who ruled an empire that, at the time, covered most of the known world. There isn't much information about him, but what is known is this: Xantan was betrayed by the other wizards in the Circle, and they stripped him of his powers and exiled him to the wilderness. Somehow, he ended up in what is now known as the Dank Cave. Now he resides there, at the bottom of that dungeon, rotting and decrepit. Occasionally, adventurers investigate his lair, but none return. You must obtain his ring, which he wears at all times."
"Where can I find the other items?"
"You can find the gemstone, rod, and Ring in the Dank Cave, to the northwest, in the Hills of Jub. Glowing stones are carried by the lupes and cougars who roam the plains west of here. Various kinds of trolls, skeletons, and other creatures carry what you need in the Dank Cave."
"What else do you know?"
"Neopia isn't a very friendly place these days. A lot of vicious and aggressive monsters, creatures, and animals roam the world. To the east is a bowl-shaped valley where weak monsters roam. It is a good area to get used to navigation and combat. To the north, west, and south are the great Plains of Neopia, flat grassland where other monsters roam, but they are not very powerful either. To the northwest are the Hills of Jub, and beyond that is the North Coast and the Great Northern Ocean. Also, to the south, is a stand of trees we simply call the Grove, and beyond it, is the Grarrl Peninsula that juts into the Summer Sea. I ought to mention, the farther you go from Neopia City, the more powerful the monsters and animals will become."
You say, "I have defeated Xantan."
Eleus Batrin says, "You did it! You defeated Xantan! Remarkable... not to disparage your own abilities, but Xantan must have truly lost a great deal of power if an adventurer such as yourself can defeat him. And I see you have his ring, the focus of his power. With it I can craft some advanced magic weapons."
"Now that you've defeated Xantan, I think it might be wise for you to journey south, to the Grarrl Peninsula. There are some ancient ruins there, and not long ago an expedition went out to investigate them, but we have not heard from them in some time. Perhaps you could investigate and see what you can find?"
Say, "What can you tell me about this medallion I found in the Jungle Ruins?"
Eleus Batrin says, "This is interesting, very interesting... I can tell you straight away that I can't translate the inscription on this medallion. The characters do look familiar, though. Maybe... there might be someone who can help. You should take this to Gali Yoj; she was my teacher, long ago. Last I heard, she was living far to the south, though, in a place called Sunny Town. I don't really know where it is, but I know that to get there you need to head west past the Spooky Forest, and then south through the Great Swamp. From there, you'll have to ask directions."

"What are you doing here?"
"I was once an adventurer, like yourself, long ago... but Xantan discovered me and cast a magic on me that keeps me from leaving this place. I can't even move from this very spot!"
"Who is Xantan?"
"You don't know who Xantan is? Then what are you doing in here?! Xantan is a powerful wizard... well, not that powerful, but more powerful than me! He lives at the bottom of this dungeon, and has for hundreds of years at least. That's all I know about him, and most of it I learned from the deeper denizens of this dungeon."
Say, "I have defeated Xantan."
Rikti says, "You did? Wha... my goodness! I can move again! I am free! Oh, thank you so much, Hydroxian. I can't tell you what this means to me."
Say, "Where are you from?"
Rikti says, "I was born in a town to the southwest of here, called Swamp Edge City. It's on the edge of a swamp, you see... The founders weren't very creative, were they? Anyway, that's where I'm from, although I've been stuck here for a while so I haven't been home. It'll be some time before I can get my energy back up, but if you happen to visit Swamp Edge City, stop by and say hello to my brother Mokti, and tell him I'm all right and I'll be home soon!"

Margoreth the Teacher says, "Why, hello there."
Say, "Who are you?"
Margoreth the Teacher says, "My name is Margoreth. I was once a teacher in Neopia City, but that old fool Denethrir convinced me to come with him to explore these ruins. Little did we know they were full of monsters!"
Say, "What do you know about this place?"
Margoreth the Teacher says, "No doubt Denethrir is still up above, safe and sound in his library, while I've been down here doing real research. These crates here are packed full of books and scrolls! Mostly, they're biology texts, descriptions of ancient animals and plants... interesting reading, though my specialty is history, and there's little enough of that here. But I did find out a few useful tidbits. Did you know that this ruin used to be a school and research center?"
Say, "What did they teach here?"
Margoreth the Teacher says, "There are study rooms and libraries up above; I think that's where Denethrir is now. And I read something, a scrap of parchment, that said something about classrooms, but it also said something about a `garden' and `teaching underground'... I wasn't quite able to decipher it completely. But apparently they taught the rudiments of biology here, but something else I read didn't make any sense. It said that, `The armies of life will rule the Empire.' I don't really know what `Empire' they're talking about. It couldn't be the Great Empire... these ruins can't be THAT old!"
Say, "What did they research here?"
Margoreth the Teacher says, "Biology, the science of life, mostly. They studied animals, creatures from near and far... as I understand it, the jungle surrounding this place has not always been there, but was actually grown there by the wizards who ran this place. They had plants brought in from all over the world and magically created new species of plants. There are underground gardens and pools that they used to nurture and grow new plants. I saw a glimpse of one, on this level, past some rooms full of beds that looked like... well, it looked like barracks for soldiers, more than anything."
I found a few later writings, too. They were talking about some indigenous pygmy tribes who had been brought here for examination, and had established their own villages out in the jungle. But the pygmies had become hostile for some reason, and the latest writing I can find talks about fighting of some kind going on, out in the jungle.
Say, "I have defeated Kreai."
Margoreth the Teacher says, "Kreai... Kreai... Oh, I'd tried to forget that name. He was a horrible creature... I'm glad you've defeated him. When I peeked into that garden, Kreai's minions caught me, and took me before him. I explained that I was just a teacher, and was only looking around. He ordered me thrown into a lake of some kind, but before they could drag me away, a fight broke out and we were attacked... I know it sounds crazy, but I swear we were attacked by giant lizards! Anyway... in the confusion I fled and hid in this storage room."
Say, "Kreai said something about these ruins containing great power."
Margoreth the Teacher says, "I don't know what he means. I mean, there is magical energy pervading this place; surely even you must have sensed it. Maybe that's what he meant. Maybe... maybe my student Tylix knows what he means. Tylix came with me and Denethrir to explore, but we became separated early on. Tylix wanted to go deeper into the dungeon, and I tried to tell him not to. I don't know where he might be, now, or if he's even still alive."

Gali Yoj says, "Who's there?"
Say, "My name is Hydroxian. Who are you?"
Gali Yoj says, "Why, I'm Gali Yoj. I'm the lore keeper in these parts; I know more than anyone about the Techo Mountains, the Two Rings, the Eastern Glade, Kal Panning... what would you like to know?"
Say, "Eleus Batrin sent me. He said you might know something about this medallion."
Gali Yoj says, "Well, let's take a look at it, then..." Gali leans closer to you and looks at the rusty medallion. After a moment, she chuckles. "It's no wonder Eleus sent you to me. He was never very good at reading Kayannin script. He neglected it in his studies, thought it wasn't important. That's what these characters are, you see. And if I am not mistaken, then this item is... the Keladrian Medallion."
Say, "What is the Keladrian Medallion?"
Gali Yoj says, "The Keladrian Medallion was an artifact of great power, created thousands of years ago by the Kayannin, an ancient civilization of powerful wizards. They vanished without a trace over two thousand years before the Great Empire was even founded, but many of their artifacts, which are nearly indestructible, remain to this day. It is fortunate that you were able to find this one.
Give me the medallion, and I will restore it to its normal radiance and power.
Say, "What should I do with the Keladrian Medallion?"
Gali Yoj says, "Trapped in the haunted ruin of Kal Panning are the undead remains of that city's leader, a great and powerful sorceress named Faleinn. She was known as a kind and generous leader when she was alive, but after the city fell, she was killed and rose again as a horrible creature of darkness. However I believe that she was instrumental in sealing the passage into the Two Rings. If you show her the Keladrian Medallion, she might be able to tell you something about how to get into the Two Rings... if she doesn't kill you first."
Say, "Why do I need to go to the Two Rings?"
Gali Yoj says, "The world has long been infested with monsters, giants, undead... all sorts of horrible creatures that plague the countryside and make travel unsafe. I have reason to believe that the source of these problems can be found in the Two Rings. There is said to be an ancient dungeon in the northern ring that contains a source of great evil, which is why the Two Rings were sealed in the first place. The mountains themselves are utterly impassable; nothing could make the journey, let alone survive it. At least, nothing is SUPPOSED to be able to make the journey. The fact that the world is covered with dangerous creatures gives the lie to that claim. Something is escaping from the Two Rings that must be destroyed... and you are probably the only one who can do that. I am too old and weak to travel, and many others are too weak or frightened to attempt what must be done. But you have demonstrated amazing courage and spirit in helping unravel many mysteries, and you are probably our only hope."
Gali Yoj takes the old, rusted medallion from you, and holds it gently in one hand while gesturing at it with her other. Sparks of gold light shoot from her free hand and strike the medallion, scraping off the layer of rust and grime, and causing the metal underneath to emit a lambent glow. After a minute, the crud has been worn away and the Keladrian Medallion shines in all its glory. Gali Yoj turns to face you. "This medallion carries a great responsibility with it. Use it wisely."
Say, "What can you tell me about the Techo Mountains?"
Gali Yoj says, "Well, you probably already know all about the Techo Mountains, since you passed through them to get here. They are riddled with a warren of caves and passages, leading to the Plains of Roo in the north, the Great Plateau in the east, and of course to our little town here. There are other things lost in the mountains, as well... ancient ruins. A mountain fortress. A lake with a mysterious island in the middle, behind a locked door..."
Say, "What ancient ruins?"
Gali Yoj says, "During the time of the Great Empire, a powerful wizard built a fortress in the Techo Mountains, on a cliff overlooking the sea. The wizard was involved in research into the nature of magic, and accidentally summoned five guardian spirits, who destroyed him and took over his fortress. These elemental guardians each wield one of the Staves of Brilliance, and are immensely powerful, as they are each a focus for a particular kind of magic. They would be difficult to defeat for any who dared venture there."
Say, "What are the Two Rings?"
Gali Yoj says, "The Two Rings are a huge mountain range that extends northeast from the Techo Mountains here. Each of the two 'rings' of mountains encircles an enormous valley. I've never been there myself, but from what I know, many dangerous monsters and creatures roam there. Supposedly there's a cave that leads through the mountains, into the valley, but there is a guardian who protects it."
Say, "Can you tell me about the Eastern Glade?"
Gali Yoj says, "If you follow the Great Plateau to the southeast, you will skirt around the Two Rings Mountains, and come to a great coastal forest, the Eastern Glades. They are inhabited by magical woodland creatures, but they aren't particularly fond of intruders in their home, so watch your step. The Glades surround a lake containing the island city of Kal Panning."
Say, "What is Kal Panning?"
Gali Yoj says, "Kal Panning is an ancient, cursed island city. It was once a grand, prosperous city, but long ago there was a great battle there, led by the Circle of Twelve after the Great Empire split into two factions. Kal Panning rebelled against the Circle, who they claimed were becoming too powerful and greedy to rule the Empire fairly. The Circle massed an army and attacked Kal Panning, and the battle lasted over a month, with many powerful wizards on both sides. Eventually, the Circle used the last of their strength to curse Kal Panning, and the city itself rose up and destroyed the rest of the inhabitants and defenders. It has been a haunted ruin ever since."
Faleinn's ghost says, "Thank you for releasing me from that state, Hydroxian, and for releasing my city and its inhabitants from the curse placed upon it a millennium ago. When Kal Panning was destroyed by Jahbal and the Circle of Twelve, the inhabitants were all turned into undead fiends and ghosts. I, being the leader of the city, was cursed to the form of an eternal, undead lich, doomed to haunt the city forever... but you have saved me. Now, my citizens and I can rest, at peace."
Say, "Who was Jahbal?"
Faleinn's ghost says, "It would be better to ask, `Who is Jahbal?', for he still lives after all this time. It is he who has unleashed the monstrous evil that now plagues the world, as revenge for what happened after he destroyed Kal Panning. You see, Jahbal was the leader of the Circle of Twelve; long before they came here, I and the other council members of this city realized that their power was growing too strong, and they were becoming too greedy and wrathful. We were determined to oppose them, and we did fight them for a month, but they proved too powerful and eventually cursed the city."
Faleinn's ghost sighs and looks around at the ruins. "After the battle, Jahbal and the rest of the Circle returned to the north, but the other Circle members had seen the error of their ways and decided to banish Jahbal, for he had grown mad with power. Jahbal, however, had made it a practice to spy on the other Circle members, and knew what they had planned. But though he was powerful, he was not powerful enough to oppose them all together, so he fled to his palace in the Two Rings Mountains. The Circle, following him, did not know what artifacts of power he might have stashed away there, so instead of attacking him, they instead cast a powerful spell, sealing the Two Rings from the outside world. There remains only one way into the valley between the mountains -- a tunnel from the south, blocked by a magically locked door. You now have the key to that door.
"Jahbal's power was never enough to break through the shield over the Two Rings, but over time he has managed to... weaken the shield, and begin casting powerful spells to corrupt the outside world, breeding all sorts of monsters and beasts who ravage the countryside. When he was first able to penetrate the shield, his first task was to sow the seeds of the Empire's destruction. He created huge monsters, and sent them to attack the Council Members, who were all killed. Without leadership, the Empire fell into decline, and Jahbal hastened that destruction by sending hordes of weaker monsters into the world to harass the armies of the Empire. The armies flailed about, fighting as they could, but eventually chaos reigned and the soldiers turned to banditry. The countryside was no longer safe. Eventually, Jahbal released enough monsters into the world that all but the most well-defended cities and towns were overrun and destroyed. Now the world is nothing more than a ruin, with a few pockets of civilization left to defend against the roaming monsters.
"For the past thousand years, I have watched, helpless, as all this happened. Even in my undead state, I could still use magics to divine the goings-on in distant places, but was powerless to escape this place. Now I am free... but I am dead, and am beyond the ability to save the world from Jahbal's madness."
Say, "How do I defeat Jahbal?"
Faleinn's ghost says, "Jahbal is a wizard, like any other, but he remains at his full strength, unlike the unfortunate Xantan, who was crippled before being banished. You will have to fight Jahbal with your strength and magic."
Faleinn looks at you sadly. "You are the last hope for the world, Hydroxian. You must go to the Two Rings and destroy Jahbal. Only that will enable those who remain living to fight off the monsters that roam the land. Go to the south, and enter the Two Rings using the key you took from me. Jahbal's palace is at the north end of the valley, beyond many dangerous defenders. It will not be an easy task... but what choice do we have?"
The Gatekeeper says, "Who are ye and what do ye want?!"
Say, "Where does this door go?"
The Gatekeeper says, "Och, ye canna be wantin' tae go in there! That door leads tae the Two Rings, a mountain valley filled wit' the most 'orrible monsters ya ever did lay eyes on! That's why they locked that there door, tae keep foolish adventurers like you from gettin' yer britches singed!"
Say, "Who locked that there door?"
The Gatekeeper says, "Well, I dunno that... but it's been locked my whole life, an' when I was a lad, me dad told me that the door's been locked since, oh, ages past. His father watched it, and his father's father watched it, and now I'm watchin' it! So don't think I'll be lettin' ya pass any time soon! You'd better watch it, or I might have tae get rough wit' ya!"
Say, "I have the key to this door."
The Gatekeeper says, "Not bloody likely! Let me see that..." The Gatekeeper snatches the key away from you and inspects it, then gasps in terror. "Where in the two blazes did ye get this?! No, don't tell me, I don't wanna know... just go through the door, and I'll just pretend I never saw ye. Get movin'!"
Zeta Roundfellow
Zeta Roundfellow says, "Welcome Hydroxian You are a long way from home."
You say, "What do you do?"
Zeta Roundfellow says, "I am a archologist and have been searching some ancient chia city remains."
You say, "Have you been able to find anything?"
Zeta Roundfellow says, "I have been hindered from my search due to not t having the funds to continue. All I have been able to uncover so far is a broken portable kiln.
"I think I can repair if you can find a few items to fund my research.
You say, "What do you need to repair the broken portable kiln."
Zeta Roundfellow says, "I need a glowing stone, a Onyx, a Emerald, a Ruby, a tiny obsidian, a tiny amber, and a tiny beryl"
Give items to Zeta Roundfellow
Well done young hydroxian, I am impressed at your collection skills and your ability to assist me in funding my studies. Let me work for a moment. Zeta Round fellow hands you Portable Kiln
Aleck Chiliver
Aleck Chiliver says, "Hello there Hydroxian, It's good to see that you have a coat to keep warm. Young sailor Nervousa Naticala over there forgot his as he was rounding neopia on his trip home from chia spur."
You say, 'Who are you'
Aleck Chiliver says, "I am Aleck Chiliver. I am a master snowball maker. I train in the finer points of ice skills."
You say, "What can we do for Nervousa Naticala over there'
Aleck Chiliver says, "If I can find a magic heat source I can thaw him out so he can continue his journey home.
You say, "Where can I find this magic heat source?"
Aleck Chiliver says, "I'm not sure but I do not expect it to be around here, it would be much too cold for one of those devices. I have heard that there is a Chia up north that is doing research and may know more about heat sources."
You say, "I have found the portable kiln. Will that work as a magic heat source?"
Aleck Chiliver, "Yes, Yes that is exactly the item I need to defrost poor Nervousa Naticala. Hand me the item and I will get to work
Give item to Aleck Chiliver
Aleck Chiliver defrosts Nervousa Naticala. Nervousa Naticala wakes up and says, "Thank you. Come visit me at my port in the Techo Mountains and I can reward you". As he walks away you hear a low mumble about a cursed key and some cartographer.
Nervousa Naticala says, "Oh I see I have a visitor."
You say, "Yes I am hydroxian, I brought Aleck Chiliver the portable kiln. You mentioned something about a reward.
Nervousa Naticala says, "Hmm, did I mention that. Well I have this moss covered key but I need a green item to replace it with."
Give item
Nervousa Naticala says, "Yes that gem will do nicely. Here is the key. Just beware of that cartographer guy if you find him. He is known to send you on a long path to get you somewhere that others will get you to in a a shorter trip, but it can be a rewarding trip."
"Also I have heard that Hydraa has a nice set of tools that will make your trip to two rings much shorter."
Rollay Scaleback hisses angrily as he falls to the ground, defeated. "Ssss... my powersss... are fading. For ages I have ruled this place... aahhhh..." He looks up at you, his eyes narrowing dangerously. "You mussst be insssane if you think you can defeat my... my massster, who gave me these powersss... He will win in the end... he alwaysss doesss..." Rollay coughs and reaches up to pull a small medallion from a chain around his neck, then tosses it to you. "I sssuppose... that you would have a better chance... with this. Find Korabric... here... and tell him... I am sssorry..."
Rollay drags himself to the edge of the lake, and silently slips into the water. He does not resurface.
