L.A. Invitational Indoor Track Meet/Randy Barnes

Julia Stamps

National leaders and Olympic hopefuls Obea Moore of Pasadena Muir and Julia Stamps of Santa Rosa will lead the best prep contingent ever assembled at the 37th annual Los Angeles Invitational indoor track meet, Saturday, February 24, at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.

In the quarter of a century the high school athletes have played a leading role in the success of the L.A. Invitational, there has never been a cast equal to that lined up for the 1996 edition.

Stamps, the fabulous distance runner from Santa Rosa, is so good she may run the open mile. She's been likened to the great Mary Decker Slaney, who also made her debut in big time track at the L.A. Invitational in the early 1970's. Stamps already is a two-time winner in the L.A. meet.
