L.A. Invitational Indoor Track Meet/John Godina

John Godina

World Shot Put Champion John Godina announces that he will compete in his specialty at the 37th annual Los Angeles Invitational Indoor Track Meet, Saturday, Feb. 24th at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.

The former UCLA standout burst onto the world scene in 1995 by winning the Shot Put (72-2 1/4), and Discus (202-4) at the NCAA Track and Field Championships, in Knoxville. He became the first person to accomplish that feat since former UCLA Bruin John Brenner, in 1984.

Godina continued his impressive 1995 season by winning the Shot Put Gold Medal at the World Championships, in Gothenburg, Sweden. He is a serious threat to win the gold medal at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

Godina is also an All-American in the classroom. He is a three-time Pac-10 Academic All-American, and NCAA Academic All-American.
