MEMORANDA:
William M. Smalley was born in France in 1697 and emigrated to America in
1714, with his cousin Gerard of New York. His son William was born in 1732 and killed by the Indians in Ohio
while in the field plowing with his son. William was taken prisoner by the Indians, he was 18 and they
had him 7 years. He found his mother in 1757 and married in 1760.
His son Freeman was born near Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1787. He came
to Texas in 1822 and preached the first sermon on the Texas soil
by a Baptist. He moved to Texas in 1848, where his son Freeman
Smalley lived on Brushy Creek. It was in his son Freemans
house, the first sermon was preached in Williamson County.
Freeman was born August 14, 1820. He had one son born in 1849. He
died September,1849. Moses W. Smalley was born September 28,
1828.
This Certifies that Fg. N. (?) Smalley and M. E. Smalley were united by me in the Holy Bonds of Matrimony at Jo Payns (Place) on the15th day of September in the year of our Lord 1869. In the presence of her mother and others. Signed: Reverend J. A. Buse.
