Barbara Foster

Barbara and husband Harold retired in 2005.  They sold their farm in southwest Arkansas and moved to Eufaula, Oklahoma.  They have bought a small home near the lake.  They were married in 1961.  They have two daughters, Melanie, who lives in Oklahoma, has one son, Zachary who is 15, and Michele, who lives in Arkansas, has three children, Brianna (9), Hailey (8) and Matthew (5).

Barbara has been writing stories or telling stories since she was a teen.  She wrote many short stories for her daughters as they grew up, about their pets or traveling.   She has always wanted to write and in 2003, with the encouragement of her family, she finally wrote and published Cassie's Clearing.  It is the story about feral cats who live in the wild and how they survive and get along.  It was a story that Barbara had been thinking about for a number of years. (Please see Cats for information on Cassie's Clearing and how to order).

She turned to writing more full time and submitted A Time For Change to Publish America.  Upon being accepted, she was delighted that her work would be available to the public.  Her second novel, The Lewis House Saga was published in 2005. She is continuing to write and has several more stories ready to be submitted for publishing.

A fiction writer, she says, her storytelling comes natural.  Her grandmother was a storyteller and so was her Mother.  She loves to write and see the words come alive on the paper.

She was born April 30, 1943 in a small town in southwest Iowa.  Living there until 1957 when her parents moved to Kansas and she met her husband to be.  Later, her family moved to Independence, Mo.  She graduated William Chrisman High School in 1961.  She has worked in the Office Supervisory field, and even served one term as County Commissioner for the county in which she lived in Arkansas. Barbara says, "I enjoy living in the rural area and my family.  I love cats and had several on the farm, as well as a large 1/2 Siamese, Skeeter, in the house.  Living at the lake in Oklahoma is still like rural living, although I don't have all the cats now, just Skeeter.  I love to crochet and sew and to write."
On a sad note:  On 4/24/08 Skeeter went to kitty heaven.  He had problems with urinary tract infections and it was to much for him.   We miss him terribly as he was a part of our family for over ten years, coming to live with us as a tiny kitten and growing into the loving big cat he became.  He will remain in our memories forever.
