Each of us are individuals with our own voice. When I work as an editor, I keep the author's unique voice while pushing technical
excellence as high as possible.
Let's take explaining a process or providing instructions. My job is to make sure the author's message is clear. The
trick is to present the information as concisely as possible -- without invalidating the author. That's important. If it's
done well, the writing and editing disappear; all that remains is clarity.
Keeping all that in mind, the challenge of this project was presenting technical information about PC maintenance to a
non-technical audience. Was it successful? Well, the results of the end-user surveys were unanimous: "clear",
"concise", "easy to read", "easy to follow". Here are some excerpts from the author's copyrighted
book.
