The Housatonic River's headwaters are in Massachussets. The river runs the width of Connecticut from north to south.
Several dams channel the river's waters; the most southerly being in Derby. The river empties into Long Island Sound
and forms the boundary between the towns of Milford and Stratford. Bald eagles frequent the river in the winter.
A large bridge (the Sikorsky) spans the river at the northern end of Stratford. The bridge may be walked between
Ryder's Landing in Stratford and Wheeler's Farms Road in Milford. The walk across the river is well worth the time,
energy and effort and will yield an unparalled view of the river, its islands, and its birds.
