to photograph. These magnificent birds are extremely cautious, and flit from place-to-place in a heartbeat. It
is a challenge to follow them in the lens, focus, and fire the shutter at just the right moment. Nine times out of ten,
they will hear the shutter and vanish! ...no second chances.

This is the best male Pileated Woodpecker image I've
been able to capture to date.
The male seems to be even more wary than the female.
This bad boy showed up six times, and spooked at lens movement the first five. I was successful only on his last appearance.
I got off seven shots in six seconds, and he was gone...
