Welcome to our West Queens Independent Democratic Club web site! UNDER CONSTRUCTION -- but so is our world. Together,
let's make it more progressive, compassionate, unified, peaceful ... liberal.
Born out of the anti-Vietnam War peace
movement, WQIDC speaks to liberal independent Democratic politics in the Queens County / New York City area.

 |
WQIDC -- The West Queens Independent Democratic Club -- invites progressive people of Western Queens County, New York
(Sunnyside, Woodside, Astoria, Long Island City, Jackson Heights, etc.) to join us in bettering our local, national and world
community.
Committed political activism, lively issues debate, and friendships born of shared beliefs and shared work
have kept WQIDC active since 1968. The club has petitioned, campaigned, and marched in support of peace, women's rights, labor
causes, nuclear freeze and a nuclear free port, quality education, the environment, affordable health care and other social
justice concerns.
WQIDC has helped elect members to serve our community in many offices and has supported the campaigns
of those Democratic candidates who share our vision. Our members also serve the community in appointed positions and hold
leadership positions in other worthwhile civic, cultural, educational, and neighborhood improvement organizations.
Members
can personally meet and question local and national political leaders and candidates at forums and small meetings. Through
the years, our guests have included David Dinkins, Ed Koch, Geraldine Ferraro, Bob Abrams, Cathy Nolan, Carolyn Maloney, Mark
Green, Helen Marshall, John Sabini, Chuck Schumer, Joe Crowley, Elizabeth Holtzman, Walter McCaffrey, Freddy Ferrer, Ramsey
Clark, Jim Larocca, John Lindsay, Eugene McCarthy, Bella Abzug and Gary Hart.
While WQIDC meetings are open to any
interested person, member or not, whether held in a public building or private home, your paid membership will help us affect
positive change and demonstrate your support.

WHAT DEMOCRATS STAND FOR
Howard Dean's response to Katie Couric when he was asked to state what Democrats stand for in 30 seconds .
. .
- One: American jobs that will stay in America, using energy independence to generate those jobs.
- Two: a strong national defense based on telling the truth to our citizens, our soldiers and our allies.
- Three: Honesty and integrity to be restored to government.
- Four: A health care system that works for everybody just like they have in 36 other countries.
- Five: a strong public education system so we can have optimism and opportunity back in America.
