Iran Educational Tours

Iran Educational Tours (iraneducationaltours.com) was established in 2002 in Tehran, Iran by Iran Doostan Tours in cooperation with Jerry Dekker, a professor of Humanities at New College of California in San Francisco, California, USA. Prof. Dekker was recently in Iran leading an educational tour of the country which offered college credit through his home campus in San Francisco. After the tour ended in November of 2002, Jerry remained in Tehran to work with the staff at Iran Doostan Tours in exploring educational tour programs for the near future to make it possible for students, teachers and the general public to learn about the rich diversity of Iran by participating in an educational tour with optional academic credit.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, heir to the ancient traditions of Persia and the cradle of the modern Islamic Revolution, is located at the cross roads of East and West. Iran, as one of the major countries along the Silk Road, has always had a particular importance because of its special position geographically and culturally. Persia thus became an important channel for the transfer of ideas, language, literature as well as science and technology. As a result, the road to Persia became a symbol of humankind’s desire to travel, to explore and to learn about oneself as well as to learn from the diversity of the human experience.

This past October of 2002, Jerry Dekker led a trip to Iran. Jerry, fluent in the Persian language, has lived and traveled in Iran for several years. The purpose of this and future trips was to follow in the footsteps of those who throughout the centuries have traveled to Iran in order to broaden their world perspectives. An educational tour to Iran therefore provides access to the rich, dynamic cultural traditions of this country as well as makes it possible to observe first hand a society in the process of Islamic revolutionary transformation.

Iran Educational Tours are organized in such a way as to provide the broadest educational and cultural experience by developing unique insights into Islamic art and architecture,
Islamic mysticism, ancient Persian civilization, environmental activism, Persian literature, Iranian handicrafts, Islamic revolutionary theory and practice as well as an in depth look at the Iranian response to globalization.

Our next journey through Iran is entitled Iran - The Silk Road and is scheduled for September 09 through September 23 of 2003. Please contact Jerry Dekker at jdekker@earthlink.net for full details or questions regarding this tour such as costs, deposits, visa application procedures, hotel information or a detailed description of the itinerary which is outlined below.
