"1134 bent hEll" Skilsaw Racer 2003

During the off season, Team Eleven Thirty-Four likes to leisurely peruse tool catalogs while sipping drinks out of coconut shells on the beach. Our eyes were caught by a closeout item, the Rear Spiked Tire Conversion Kit for the Skilsaw Model 127. What luck, that is the same model our team uses and we certainly needed more traction for the Skilsaw Racer.

Unfortunately, this modification requires changing our racing category from Super Stock to Modifieds. We knew Modifieds was filled with experienced and well-funded racers last season, but being the underdog was going to be worth it. Since the kit didn't require any modification to the existing tool, it would also be easy to set the racer back up for the Super Stock configuration if needed. Yeah right.

The kit came complete with, you guessed it, a spiked tire, various gear selections, quality chains and all the hardware necessary to attach it to the Skilsaw. The instructions were easy to follow with an illustrated guide anyone could follow. One hour of assembly time was recommended and required only a small household welder, metal saw, power drill, angle-grinder, clamps, chain-breaker, wrench, bubblegum, yarn and a plastic fork. After a little bit of work, the results were looking pretty good.

The racing was fast and furious, (Can I say that without paying royalties?) and our team was having problems with our untested machine. At the end of the day, we beat one of the RC car chassis running a cordless drill motor, but had hook-up and power problems the rest of the day. That's racing and Team Eleven Thirty-Four will be back again next year.

We are still looking for sponsors. If you feel Team Eleven Thirty-Four embodies the ethic and type of message you want to send, let us know by visiting our donations page.
