One-Of-A-Kind Sculptures In Black Walnut By Frank Faris
MANDAN
DANCERS
WELCOME TO MY WEBSITE! I hope you enjoy viewing the results of my creative efforts in the field of wood sculpting.
There is a separate page devoted to each of my current sculptures. Each piece is ONE-OF-A-KIND, requiring
hundreds of hours to create. I use solid slabs of Black Walnut because of its beautiful grain and rich, warm color. Each piece
is approximately 48"-60" wide, 18"-24" high, 3" thick, and weighs in the neighborhood of 30 pounds.
You will see from the pictures that each sculpture lends itself to the shape and flow and grain of the wood.
There are many surfaces and textures to these sculptures, from shiny to rough (as indicated by the "grass" on the "Preparing
to Dismount" piece. The natural bark of the Black Walnut has been left on the top and bottom of each piece to add yet another
point of interest to the different textures.
The Black Walnut has been air-dried for six years or more before sculpting it. Black Walnut is naturally a
very hard wood, which lends itself to my detailed style.
I began wood sculpting approximately 25 years ago, following in the footsteps of my dad, "Chick" Faris. He
retired from the Oklahoma City Police Department and then began a new career in wood sculpting. He sold many pieces during
his second career. One piece was commissioned by the Oklahoma State Fair and was a massive carving of a wagon train scene
into the large trunk of a Redwood tree. This piece was shown during several years at the Oklahoma State Fair and now resides
there from time to time in various locations.
I learned from my dad, although our styles are somewhat different, mine dealing in much more detail than his.
"MANDAN DANCERS" (Buffalo Dancers-Mandan Tribe-1823) is carved out of a solid piece of Black Walnut. The dimensions
are 44" x 20" x 3". The weight is 27 pounds. It took 357 hours to carve this piece.
The price is $3,770.00. This amount includes crating, shipping and insurance.
I can accept bank transfers and credit cards through PayPal.com. You do not need an account with PayPal in
order to pay through them, but you do need an e-mail address. I have a Verified account with PayPal.
I would be glad to accept a Cashier's Check or your personal check. However, the shipment of the piece will
be somewhat delayed if you pay with a personal check.
Inquiries from art dealers/galleries are welcome. If you are interested in receiving more information on any
of these pieces, please contact me at the e-mail address below.

Please do me the honor of visiting my tribute
page to my dad, "Chick" Faris. I am displaying the few pieces of his that were left to me and family members.
I think you may be impressed with his work.
