I went to tell a tank it was parked in the wrong place and was an easy target. Just after that they received 76 incoming with a number of wounded, including me. The Corpsman fixed up my right shoulder and I left do to counter mortar fire. My hearing was also greatly impaired during this event. I’m looking for anyone with information from the tank or the event. No records show me as being in a combat area. Respond please: Frederick R. Alderman, (315) 597-2000, call collect or write to 4264 Canalside Dr., Palmyra, NY 14522, or email: betty@bettyalderman.com.” 17April2008

PERSONAL: This is a difficult, yet very important search. Deborah Mau, Tampa, Florida, is trying to find her birthfather. She and her son are in desparate need of medical information from him. "If he desires, I will leave him alone after that. Or, if he wishes, I would like to know about him, but I will respect his privacy in that regard."

KNOWN FACTS: Birthfather of Deborah Mau who was born in 1964. Knickname "Max" or "Mac". March, 1964 at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He was a cook, enlisted, at Fort Polk, possibly chief cook. "Max" born 1931 0r 1932. Some connection with California, birthplace? based there? Irish or Scottish, likeable disposition. Entered military in 1950 at age 18 or 19. Deborah was given up for adoption. Deborah's mother had 2 or 3 other daughters aged 4, 6 and 9 in 1964. "Max" or "Mac" was married and had a son, David, born in 1956.

SUPPOSITIONS: "Max" or "Mac" was cadre , permanently stationed at Fort Polk which, at the time, was a "climate conditioning" processing center for Vietnam servicemen on the way over. This supposition is based on the fact that he had rented a house in Leesville in 1964. A woman who remembers 'Max" said that his sister married a man named "LaCaze".One source says that "Max" was possibly called "Jack" from time to time.

Deborah has been in contact with Fort Polk and the landlord of the Leesville house, without success. If anyone can provide any information as to the identity or whereabouts of "Max" or "Mac", or has any suggestions where else she should investigate, please contact Deborah Mau at dmau@helios.acomp.usf.edu Even the slightest lead will be appreciated. 23Aug98

DO YOU KNOW THIS TRUCK?

Do you remember? Do you know someone who might?

1939 Ford 1½ ton Panel Truck, 134" wheelbase. It belonged to the 115th Quartermaster Regiment of the California National Guard. The unit was disbanded in 1942. The conversion work was probably done on it during its period with the 115th. Sometime after WWII, the 223rd Infantry Regiment obtained it. The truck has "223D INF"along with a "7" with a crown on it. It was around during the Korean War era since it has the 40th Division's "Ball of Fire" insignia on it. The National Guard had the truck, then it was also owned by Lang Transportation, The State of California and an appliance repair company.

Huge 7's with crowns are on the rear doors and 223D INF on the hood. The 7 with a crown was an unauthorized distinguished unit insignia for the 223rd. It symbolized Pasadena, the "Crown City" home of the 223rd Infantry Regiment. The 7 comes from the old 7th California. If you have any information, please contact Don Kenyon at Don Kenyon
