Miniatures (Cobb's Island Lighthouse)

This lighthouse is one I built from a Real Good Toys kit.

It is set up as a post-Civil War light

on small, fictitious Cobb's Island, which is in the

equally fictitious town of Cobb's Harbor

somewhere along the coast of Maine

(near the Kennebec River)

The keeper is Joss Lovatt,

who served as a ship's captain in the Civil War.

He came home to find his father dead

and his elder brother Edweard in charge of the family farm.

Edweard has never forgiven Joss for running away to sea and abandoning the family homestead.

Joss has a younger sister Maranda,

whom Edweard is trying to marry off to the banker's son

in order to stop forclosure on a mortgage.

Joss has left off sailing for a bit

to reflect and recover form the horrors of war.

He lives in the little lighthouse with his Newfoundland dog, Ponto, and numerous cats and kittens.

This is the watchroom, which contains the keeper's desk,

cans for carrying oil to the lantern (as well as cleaning supplies).

There are also books, and a stereoscope for amusement

and a telescope for watching out to sea.

The stove is from a Chrysnbon kit.

The bedroom is furnished in a combination of old furniture

which my grandfather made, as well as

House of miniatures and Chrysnbon kits.

Lighthouses were funished with sturdy, servicable furniture

by the Lighthouse Board.

It made no pretensions to style as long as it was useful.
