Sun of holiness, shield
of Day,
All-seeing as
Óðinn's eye,
Hail-Melter, mightier
than Thurses;
Thunder-brand, threat
from above
Giver of Life, greatest
of signs,
The hope of sailors, steering wanderers
Over all the ways of the whale's
road.
Weal and warmpth and woe of ice;
Truth-harrier, harmful
to lies,
Day- wheel warding
right,
Whirling fire that
fills the Hero,
Spring of Sig on
sword's edge bright
Troth's heart-gate, hung in the welkin's hall,
Wakes the wheels, the will strengthens,
Teaches the wise to wield
Wod-craft,
Hallows the heart, heals illness,
Burning out all cold that chills life.
Though ever stalked by a sib of Fenris;
Ungraspable Sunna grants to Midgarth
Boonful gifts begotten
of Her:
Honey sweet for
skalds' mead,
Rings of gold for
gadlings' arms,
Herbs stark against
sickness,
And Burning Sow's bright sorrow-stones.
