EXPERIENCE

Finding the Perfect Fit, Austin TX: Freelance Education Technology Consultant (01/95 - present)
In 1995 established Finding the Perfect Fit to work as a freelance education technology consultant. Work has included course design, workshop presentations and training, keynote addresses, and mediation.

University of Texas at Austin, Austin TX: Graduate Research Assistant-WINGS Online Program (01/01 - 08/02)
Worked to develop and maintain the WINGS Online telementoring program for the College of Education. The program provided telementors and facilitators for pre-service and induction year teachers in the state of Texas who received their training at the University of Texas at Austin.

University of Texas at Austin, Austin TX: Teaching Assistant-Student Teaching Supervisor (08/98 - 12/00)
Supervised pre-service teachers during their observation and student teaching blocks. Worked with pre-service teachers interested in regular education elementary positions and special education elementary positions.

Austin ISD-Casis Elementary, Austin TX: 5th Grade Teacher (08/88 - 05/98)
Worked as a teacher with gifted and regular 5th grade students. Leadership positions during the 10 years at this position included:

  • Team leader (1989-1991; 1995-1997);
  • District Technology Leadership Team Member (1997-1998);
  • District Level Math Contact Person (1992-1996);
  • Member of the Campus Leadership Team (1992-1994).

In 1987, the unit previously at Gullett Elementary was transferred to Casis Elementary.

Austin ISD-Gullett Elementary, Austin TX: Sp. Ed. Emotional disturbance unit for grades 3-6. (08/86 - 08/87)
Worked in a self-contained unit for aggressive emotionally disturbed students. These students were either recently been dismissed from or about to be assigned to the state school for E.D. students or the state's youth correction unit.

Manor ISD-Manor Elementary, Manor TX: Special Ed. teacher. Resource unit for grades 1-2 (08/85 - 05/86)
Worked with mainstreamed low SES students.

Smithville ISD-Smithville Elementary, Smithville TX: Special Ed. teacher. Resource unit for 5th & 6th. (08/83 - 05/85)
Worked with mainstreamed low SES students.

The focus of my dissertation was on the perceptions of K-12 educators integrating telecollaborative and/or telecooperative projects into classroom curricula for the first time. It also focused on systematic and institutional change and professional development.

M.S.Ed.  Special Education-Behavior Disorders from the University of Texas at Austin, GPA: 4.0, Austin TX (1990)
Studies included exploration of various behavior disorders as recognized in APA's Diagnostic Statistical Manual. Intervention schemes and programs were part of the program and special emphasis was placed upon working with "emotionally disturbed" students, "autistic" students, and "gifted" students.

  • Designed a continuing medical education course on death certificates for the Texas Dept. of Health as requested by the A.M.A. and World Health Organization and as part of a course on instructional design at the University of Texas at Austin (April 1999)
  • Designed a Web site to help explain critical theory and its impact on education as part of a course on systems of human inquiry at the University of Texas at Austin. The site is being use by colleges and universities internationally and has been written up in eDUCATE!, a critical theory journal (Nov. 1999)

  • Worked with Canada's SchoolNet (part of Industry Canada) and the Association of First Nations to develop KIDLINK online forums for aboriginal peoples in Canada and to provide teacher training for Canadian teachers. Helped to mediate relations between the two Canadian organizations (April 2000)
