Contracted to IBM Global Services to provide 2nd level support for Computer Associates’ AutoSys® job scheduling software for IBM’s clients.

• Provided high-quality technical support to resolve difficult issues in configuration and day-to-day operations.
  

• Performed every phase of software development for the following 3 projects. This included but is not limited to:
  gathering user requirements, planning the implementation, designing the architecture, implementing the design, integration of separate programs, unit and system testing, functional enhancements and correction of problems that arose from upgrades of 3rd party software that integrated with these programs.
  1. Standardized the execution of SQLPLUS and SQLLOAD jobs. This program makes it possible to create new SQL jobs quickly and easily, with robust error handling and job-restart capabilities. This has tremendously sped up development of new SQL jobs and greatly reduced errors.
  2. Enabled the rapid development of new ETL load jobs for the data warehouse project. Once the ETL transformation has been designed with the PowerMart application, it is only necessary to create a small initialization file defining a few variables to make the ETL job ready to run. Robust error handling and job restart capabilities are built into this program.
  3. Created a set of programs to build and run AutoSys jobs that executed Unica Affinium campaigns in batch mode and detect and report errors. This was complicated by the fact that the Affinium program is not designed to run in batch mode and it was necessary to parse the log files to detect errors. This program made it possible to use the Affinium tool to harvest the data housed in the data warehouse and was critical to the success of the data warehouse project.
• Loaned to the development team and wrote Oracle PL/SQL stored procedures to generate reports from the data warehouse. The result was to speed up the completion of this phase of the data warehouse project.
• Designed, built, tested and refined UNIX scripts to deploy different types of updates to the external Web servers (Java code, HTML and PL/SQL procedures). This dramatically reduced the amount of time required to deploy these changes and sped up development by allowing the developers to work on different sets of changes simultaneously and deploy them individually.

Requested a transfer to the position of programmer and attended a training course in the development environment ( Centura Developer, a.k.a. SQLWindows ). Duties involved the generation of new code and debugging of older code for a new client-server application using object-oriented design and based upon an Oracle 8i database. Additional responsibilities involved UNIX and NT scripting to handle EDI with other companies as well as automated synchronization of data between old and new line-of-business applications.

• Assisted in the implementation of a custom report generation package, including designing and writing the code to export the data to a text file or directly into an Excel spreadsheet via DDE. A significant accomplishment of this project was reverse-engineering the file format of the application's reporting tool, which enabled me to solve a problem that had resulted in GPF's.
• Produced several different solutions to enable the synchronization of data from disparate systems. These involved scripts in different languages and across dissimilar operating systems using tools such as telnet, ftp, AWK, UNIX shell and NT shell commands. The systems thus synchronized exist both inside and outside the company.
• As the application neared completion my work focused on debugging difficult problems uncovered during alpha testing. Several of the problems were caused by subtle errors in the base classes, requiring advanced analytical skills and tenacity.

Coordinated all support for the network and personal computers throughout the company and managed purchases of hardware and software to provide for business needs. Implemented additional servers as required, including the implementation of a fax server. Performed system administration for UNIX servers. In this position I had one support person who reported to me.

• Designed and built a hot-running backup UNIX server for the main line-of-business application. An automated procedure makes a nightly copy of all critical files from the production server to the backup server to prevent loss of business information.
• Evaluated vendors and implemented a firewall solution for Internet connectivity for the company. I also evaluated, developed and tested an implementation plan to add antiviral scanning to the firewall system.
• Conducted all phases of a planned migration from Microsoft Mail to Exchange Server for the entire company. This included a staged rollout with attendant synchronization between the old and the new systems.

Responsible for providing end-user and network support for 100 node Novell 3.x network using Windows for Workgroups 3.11 on the desktop. Servers included SCO UNIX 3.2, Novell 3.x, HP-UX 9.x, and NT 3.51.

Coordinated and developed support services for the use of personal computers and network problem resolution within the company. Planned and implemented purchases of computer hardware and software to provide solutions to specific needs. Created hardware and software standards. Served as backup Novell administrator for a 250 node, 4 server network. Supported Windows for Workgroups and Windows NT 3.51 workstation and server.

Performed system administration for a networked system of two VAX computers running the PE Nelson ACCESS*CHROM laboratory automation system. This responsibility included daily interaction with the end-users to solve problems and answer questions regarding use of the system. Performed DCL programming to automate functions such as tape backup and restore. Duties included instrumental analyses to support development and registration of agricultural chemicals and their formulations.

• I served on a team that evaluated and selected a midrange hardware/software system for automated data collection. The careful selection of this solution resulted in an enhanced ability for the analytical departments to perform their work accurately an efficiently.
