Iraq's deposed leader Saddam Hussein is captured by American troops. The former dictator was found hiding in a hole near his hometown of Tikrit and surrendered without a fight.

In a hand written note from National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice, President Bush is notified that United States has successfully transferred power back to the Iraqi people two days ahead of schedule.  Iraq is once again a sovereign nation.

For the first time in 30 years Iraq holds FREE national elections to select a 275-seat National Assembly went ahead as scheduled. 

Over 8.5 million Iraqi’s defied terrorist threats and proudly displayed their purple dyed finger that indicated they voted as a symbol of their freedom.
