Chi Kappa Rho, Inc. was founded in 1935 by Helen I. Pontius, a recreation professional in Los Angeles, California. The
name was derived from three Greek letters X, K, and P symbolizing character, knowledge, and recreation. The symbols on the
organization’s pin are the scale for justice and service, the lamp for enlightenment, and wings for athletics. The stone
in the center of the organizational pin is an amethyst and represents sincerity.
