1797 Deed book PP, pg 337 January 24, 1797 Thomas Mullins and Lucy, his wife, to Henry Poss for £30, 270 acres on Camp Creek, Wilkes County, GA. (Thomas Mullins in deed but signed by John Mullins and Lucy Mullins). Registered November 24, 1797. Interesting to note that a family named Hammock lived south bordering this propery.

1793 Thomas Mullins on Tax List, Cap't Smith's District #2 in Wilkes County. He is shown as owning 270 acres of Oak and Hickory Land, 3rd quality on Camp Creek.

1800 Federal Census lists Thomas Mullins is the oldest of the lot being over 45, with a wife the same age and 2 boys almost grown, 15-25 years old. He could have been born anytime before 1755. Census = 00201-00001-00.

1800 Federal Census lists Elias Mullins is between 16-25 and is married to a woman of the same age bracket and no children. That gives his birth year range from 1775-1784. Elias is the son of Thomas.

1800 Federal Census lists John Mullins is between 26-44, his wife the same age and has 7 children all under 10 years of age. That gives his birth year range from 1756-1774, most likely more towards 1765-1770. John is probably the oldest son of Thomas.

The above census is divided: 0-9,10-15,16-25,26-44,45+.

There are three land transactions in Georgia for Elias (x) MULLINS. (It is interesting to note that there is only one Elias Mullins in Georgia on the 1820 and 1830 census, and he is the son of Bud Mullins. In all of these transactions he has witnesses to his property. These are some other Mullins, the descendants of Thomas Mullins the indentured immigrant:

On April 19, 1813, he sells to Ephriam Cox 70.3 a of Lot #183 on Ocmulgee River in 11th District of Baldwin (now Jones County). Wits: Joel Smith and Mordica Jacob, JP.

On December 10, 1813, he sells to Dempsey Philips of Jones Co. 50a, the W corner of Lot #35, adj King, Blalock and Clement Mullins, in 10th Dist of Baldwin (now Jones County). wits: James Mullins and Radford L. Cotton. This Clement is the son of Thomas Mullins.

On September 4, 1817, he sells to Daniel Clifton of Jones Co. 50a in NW corner of Lot #45 in 8th Dist of Baldwin (now Jones County) adj Douglas, Smith, Jeremiah Mullins, and Hardy Mullins. Wits: R. Sipsey and E.J. Bower, JIC.

This Elias Mullins is not recorded, that I can find, in Georgia after 1817.

Generation No. 2

2. John3 MULLINS (Thomas2, Thomas1) was born Abt. 1774. He married (Mullins). She died Abt. 1830 in Talbot County, GA.

Notes for John MULLINS:

From the 1820 Jones County census we have the following:

Mullians, John (John Mullins 100010-32110-0-300 + 3 slaves) pg. 122, line 26.

The census interpreter got the name misspelled. But it was very obvious that the census taker got his name right - Mullins. Also there were no Mullians in Georgia in 1830. He is in Capt Gresham's District. I believe his brother is Thomas Mullins whose name was also misspelled as Mullians. He is between 26 and 44 years old, and so is his wife. Birth year range would then be 1776-1794.

From the Talbot County deed transactions:

15 Sept 1827 Jasper Co. Benjamin Portwood, Sr sold to John P. Hammock, John Mullins & Lewis Hammock of Jones Co Ga, $500, 202.5 acres, LL #133, etc, LD #16 Muscogee Co. Signed: Benjamin (x)Portwood Wit: Burwell Jackson, Hiram (x) Moore. Rec: 6 June 1828, pg 84.

The 1830 Talbot County census for John is 1110001-1111-14 where 14 is the number of his slaves. This means his wife had just died as there are small ones, under 5 in the family and no mother. John lists his age as between 40-50 giving him birth years of 1780-1790.

John Mullins served on the March 1829 Petit Jury, and on the September 1834 Grand Jury for Talbot County.

From the Court of Ordinary Inferior Court Bk A 1828 -

174 Ordered that John Stewart, John Mullins and John Arnold be appointed reviewers of a public road from Talbotton the nearest and best way in a direction to Marion Court House and report the same.

491 Ordered that John Mullins, John Hammack, Thomas Clemants John Harrison & John Smith be appointed reviewers to examine and review the old road called Mims Road running from Robert Adams to intercept the Fort Perry Road at or near Caleb Adams and report the writing of the same.

5. Thomas3 MULLINS III (Thomas2, Thomas1) was born Bet. 1780 - 1784. He married (2) Nancy McFARLAND April 04, 1822 in Jones County, Georgia.

Notes for Thomas MULLINS III:

On the 1820 Census for Jones County, Georgia:

Mullians, Thomas (Thomas Mullins 200010-30010-0-002 + 2 slaves) pg. 122 line 4.

The census interpreter also got his name wrong. These two, John and Thomas are living near each other and are about the same age. It is interesting to note that Thomas is in manufacturing (blacksmith?) and John is in Agriculture. Thomas and his wife are between 26 and 45 years old. The childrens ages are 2 boys under 10, 3 girls under 10.

About 1827 he moved from Jones County to Talbot County, Georgia with his brother John. He chose to live in Talbotton, the future county seat. His occupation was manufacturing.

In the 1830 census Thomas is listed in Talbotton the census reads: 2100001-21101-9. This would give Thomas the following family: 2 boys under 5, 1 boy 5-9, 2 girls under 5, 1 girl 5-9, one girl 10-14, and a wife between 20-29. It would also make Thomas' age between 40-49 giving birth year range of 1780-1790.
