 NORTH DADE AREA   November ASC Meeting                             November 8 2009

Opening:

The Chair opened the meeting @ approx 2:00pm with the Serenity Prayer.

Ronald H. read the Twelve Traditions of NA.

The Chair read the Definition of an ASC from the Policies & Procedures Manual.

Alveno presented the 11th Tradition -  Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion. We need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of pres radio and film. 11 Concept – NA funds are to be used to further our our primary purpose and must be managed responsibly.

 Roll Call:   The Chair gave the roll call of the ASC.

 Activities Chair, Outreach and Alternate RCM positions open.

Thirty-Nine (36) Groups out of Fifty -one (51) were marked present, Quorum*was established.

The One Desire Group has closed and has been removed from the roll call

The chair thanked the groups for attending the ASC this month.

A quorum is one more than ½ of the voting participants (groups). A quorum shall be established at the start

Of the ASC, by roll call. That said quorum shall remain established until the end of the ASC meeting.

 

Secretary Report:

Herb Provided the ASC a review of the minutes October ASC 2009.  Itemized Treasury reports for last month were provided by the treasurer.  Please give all Area motions to the secretary or vice chair within the first 15 minutes of the ASC.  Please provide emails so that we can keep costs down, Minutes were emailed out and mailed out.  A monthly attendance report is being added to the minutes.  Website is going good and being updated regularly. Minutes can be found on the site,

 Chairs /Vice Chairs Report:

Amador shared that he has visited half of the groups in the North Dade Area.  Shared that this area is in desperate need of members to volunteer for service. You cant keep what you have unless you give it away.  Shared that a willing servant who loves to party and has control issues is needed to assume the Activities Chair position.  Read the responsibilities of  that committee.  Our literature chair (Valarie)has a new commitment and must resign position of Literature chair the first of the year, we need some to step up.

Vera S. volunteered to take on the position of Literature chair. Shared she has 6 years clean, do service, is currently volunteering as H&I literature Distribution.  Willingness to serve.

The chair asked the ASC for a vote to elect Vera to Literature Chair.  Unanimous vote was given by ASC.  Vera will assume the position when Valarie leaves at the beginning of  the year.  Thanks for stepping up Vera !

The Admin will be meeting on the 2nd Saturday @ 5:00pm at Sellers Memorial church 8350 NW 14th ave across from Arcola Park.  All members are welcomed.

 

*To fulfill our fellowship’s primary purpose, the NA groups have joined together to create a structure  which develops, coordinates, and maintains services on behalf of NA as a whole

 

Regional Committee Member Report Oral Report

Stan B. shared that he will be attending the next Regional meeting in Naples.  If any has in motions, issues or concerns for the Regional level of service please let me know and I will take it to Region. 

The CAR Conference Agenda Report .  There will be Regional conference workshops at all regional meetings.  The next to meetings will be held in Miami for South Dade and North Dade where we will be executing the workshops as well.

The reports are $ 8.00 per copy. I will try and find a way to get every a copy of the report for each group.  Not sure how many pages the report consists of.

Activities:  position open

Help-Line:

Doreen chair of Helpline shared that the automated system is up and running.  Please check it out.  As part of Public Information the system also provides you Area Activities, Subcommittee information, also provides you with automated meeting list info and can also connect you with a live person for further assistance.  All changes happen in real time.  The New Helpline number is 866-935-8811 .     We have a new Vice Chair  Lucas.

Hospitals & Institutions - 

Danny chair of H&I shared that there are 15 Institutions that are being served with 27 meetings.  8 institutions are open including two that are considered renegade because the chair has not reported the past 2 months.  Efforts are being made to bring the meetings back to fold.  Village Fit has a new panel chair Denise.  The Village Adolescent has a new panel chair Derrick.  We have a committee for the Gratitude Dinner.  The Deauville Hotel has agreed to work with us.  We are going into institutions to make sure H&I format is being followed.

One of the Panel chairs not showing up is for the Salvation Army.

Motion to accept was made.

Meeting Lists:

John T. Chair of Meeting Lists shared that 250 meeting list printed.  The cost for printing went up with Sir Speedy to $46.79 cents.  I will be submitting a new budget next month. The new Helpline number has been placed on the meeting lists

Newsletter – 

Evonne chair of Newsletter  shared that the History forms for the groups must be turned in.  GSRs please make the winners corner a part of your groups secretary report.  I have people approaching me saying that their name was not included in the Clean times.

Lets give Kathy a hand for telling her story in the article "Addicts Pride". I can receive all articles by email.

Literature Distribution

Valarie chair of Literature Distribution shared that its been a great privilege being the Literature Chair person for the past 8 years.  It has kept me grounded and clean.  I will continue to serve till January to the next person stepping up to the plate.

Vera will need an assistant.  We do have some backorders.  I am seeing more donations and Literature purchases being made.  Herbert also has recent changes that will interfere with his being vice chair.

Mattie S. volunteered to serve as vice chair of Literature Distribution.  Shared that she has nine years clean and is committed to recovery and willing to serve.

Chair asked for a motion to accept Mattie as Vice chair of Literature Distribution.  ASC  voted in favor.

24Hour Room.

Cheryl chair of 24 Hour room shared that the committee is doing well. Our next fundraiser is the Dinosaur speaker jam and we need a lot of support. We are trying to raise more money so we can have a lot of fun during the 24Hour room.  The more money  more fun.  All groups have your food donations cooked and at the building by 3:00pm.  Please bring the same thing for Christmas.  Next month we will have the slots for everybody and we will need shift workers for nine days from 9:00am until.

We will also have a calendar of events for the 24 hour room.  We plan on doing something every night.  We have one more fundraiser on the 11th of December.  Next Area we will have flyer out for the Xmas dance.  Stan B. will be our speaker for Christmas main meeting. The committee's  treasurers are still accepting group donations.  The Thanks giving flyer is out.  Thanks to everyone for your support.

Joyce shared that she is approachable if mistakes are found on the treasury report.  Receipts are given out for all monies collected.  Mistakes can be made so please bring any discrepancies to my attention. Grateful to be of service.

 

New/Existing GSR Oral report

Patti GSR of the Pills Group shared That this a new group at the Boulevard Club on Tuesdays at 7:30pm

Open to all.  We had our first meeting  and 9 people can to support.  We basically share on addiction to pills but all are welcome.  Please support.

 

Herb Announced that Oldtimers Group is celebrating their 7th anniversary on November 28th at 7:00pm at Sellers Memorial 8350 nw 14th ave.

 

Leroy announced the No U Turns will be celebrating 18 years anniversary December 19, 2009 @ SRO building 2136 nw 8th ave,  @ 7:00pm, there will be the Junkkanoo band, T Shirts will be on sale,  Warren and Ladonna is cooking, please come out and support.

Open Forum

Elijah shared that New Connections and How it works is celebrating a joint anniversary @ Mt Tabor Church

1701 nw 66th street please mark address on flyer to be held on November 28, 2009.

 

Kennard shared that Back to Basics will be celebrating 7 years anniversary on the 30th  of November.

Motion to close open forum was made.

 

Herb thanked Doreen for a great job on the Helpline, it took a lot of typing.

Also shared that there is still double scheduling of events  on the same day please check the Activities calendar.

Old Business Elections/Nominations

No old business. 

Nominations:  Evonnee nominated Eddie B. for the Outreach Chair nomination.  Eddie accepted and Qualified.

Eddie shared that he is 21 years clean, willing, worked the steps.

 The Chair asked the ASC for a vote.  Vote was unanimous.  Eddie is the new Outreach Chair. Chair announce that Activities is still open.  Asked for motion to close nominations.

Informed Vera that she will need to give up GSR position.
