I recently retired from Pacific Microwave Joint Venture which was my second career job for nearly 30 years. I retired from my first career with
the U.S. Navy in 1978 after 20 years.
Since retiring, my wife, Peggy, and I are trying to get some travelling in before getting too old. We
like to visit a casino now and then, and visit with our children and grandkids.
In September 2008, we took a month long trip with some friends to Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado,
Arizona, & Nevada visiting some of our National Parks, such as Yellowstone N.P., Rocky Mountain N.P., Garden
of the Gods N.P. near Colorado Springs, Black Canyon of the Gunnison N.P., Grand Canyon N.P., Hoover Dam, and Las Vegas before returning home. The high-lite of the
trip was a step back in time by riding the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railway steam train from Durango to Silverton, CO and back. Spent the night in Silverton in an old 1882 hotel. Was creepy,
and seemed to be haunted, but well worth the experience.
In April of 2009, we took a flight to Boston and spent three weeks travelling around Boston, MA., New Hampshire,
Maine, Rhode Island, & Connecticut. We spent time visiting with my wife's family and friends.
Peggy is a collector of Swarovski Silver Crystal, which is produced in Wattens, Austria. She is a member of the Swarovski Collectors
Society (SCS). The SCS has more than 450,000 members worldwide and is represented in more than 30 countries. The
Swarovski silver crystal collectibles, in most cases, are quite expensive, but are very beautiful when sunlight or special
display lighting strikes the items, producing a sparkling display of rainbows. We have a small collection so far. To see some
of our collection, click here.
Some of my interests besides traveling around, is watching our grandkids grow up, genealogy research,
amatuer videography & photography, home theater, amatuer coin collecting, and working with computers.
I was born in Topeka, KS (1940). I moved to the Rogue Valley with my father in 1945 and lived here in the valley
ever since, except during my 20-year tour in the Navy.
Before finishing high school at Crater High, Central Point, OR., I joined the U.S. Navy and made a career of it. I pursued finishing my high school education
in the Navy by getting a GED. After the Navy, I resettled here in southwest Oregon with my family, and landed a job
in 1978 with a microwave systems firm, then Pacific Telatronics, Inc., later renamed Pacific Microwave Joint Venture
(PMJV), located in Medford, Oregon.
I am also a member of the Crater Class of '59 Reunion Committee. We last celebrated our
45th Year Reunion on August 20th to 22nd, 2004 in Central Point, OR. Our 50th reunion was on Aug. 21-23,
2009. We had a great turn-out for both the 45th year and 50th year.
My wife, Peggy, is a native of Boston, MA., and is a huge Red Sox fan. We were married in Boston in 1964 while
I was stationed there in the Navy.
We have four children, two girls and two boys. All our children were born during my career with the navy in
different locations around the country. Their names are Laureen (born in Aberdeen, WA), Michael (born in Portsmouth,
VA), John (born in Boston, MA., ex-Navy also), and Lisa (born in Honolulu, HI). As you can see, the navy moved us
around a lot.
Both of our daughters are married and live in the Springfield/Eugene, Oregon area. We have two granddaughters from
our first daughter, Laureen, whose names are Taich'e and Cori; and two granddaughters from our youngest daughter, Lisa, whose
names are Adria and Allison. Our oldest granddaughter Taich'e and her husband gave us our first Great-Granddaughter,
Ella in April 2008.
One son, Michael, lives in the Medford, OR, and the other son, John, lives in Gig Harbor, WA who was married in
Sept. 2005. We have a grandson from our oldest son, Michael, whose name is Ashton. He was born June 2004.
