Allen's Hummingbird #1

Allen’s Hummingbird (Selasphorus sasin). This colorful hummer is a common summer resident along the California coast. They eat nectar and bugs. Crescent City, CA. Note that his little tongue is out.

Canon EOS 1V camera with 600 F/4 L IS lens and 12mm and 25mm extenders. Fuji Velvia 50 film at 1/1000 sec and F/4. Gitzo tripod and Wimberly head. I set up my camera in my living room with a feeder just outside the patio door. (I needed the extenders in order to focus a few inches closer, as my living room wasn't quite wide enough.) I placed a gold reflector behind the feeder (to the right) in order to get a little more light under the bird.
