 Bald Eagle

Bald Eagle

Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus).  Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge, CA.  This is in the Klamath Basin, on the California-Oregon border.  Eagles overwinter there by the hundreds.

Federal status: THREATENED. Following the ban of the pesticide DDT, which caused eggs to be very fragile, this magnificent symbol of our country has made a good comeback. Habitat disturbance is still a problem.

Canon EOS 1V camera with Fuji Provia 100F film.  600 mm f/4 L IS lens with 2x teleconverter.  1/180 sec at f/8.

Photo was published in the Wild Rivers Coast Phonebook, 2005-2006.
