Test Your Wits. Win Fabulous Prizes.

The Wild Colonial Pub Quiz ™ is modeled after the pub quizzes that have long been popular in the Ireland, Britain, New Zealand, Australia and elsewhere. Our quiz is unique to the Wild Colonial, though, since we develop the questions ourselves and always include a local category. We offer our quiz every other Sunday night-barring holidays-at 8:30 p.m. It usually takes about two hours to play the whole quiz but late arrivals and early leave-takers are encouraged.

What It Is

The quiz consists of eight to nine categories. Most categories include six questions. The quizmaster reads aloud each question and teams write down their answers and turn them in at the end of each round. There is no speed component. The answers for each round are read at the end of the round. A tally is kept throughout the quiz and prizes are awarded at the end of the evening.

Forming Teams

Some people arrive at the quiz with teams that are already formed but many players simply arrive before quiz time and form teams. The quiz can be played by teams consisting of four players or less. Some brave souls dare to go it alone but this approach makes it difficult to win and a lot less fun. Teams must finish the quiz with only members of their original roster (i.e. no substitutions allowed) in order to qualify for the fabulous prizes.

The Questions

The questions are grouped into categories. The categories range from traditional categories such as Current Events, History and Literature to less conventional ones such as Hotels, Espionage and Celebrity Parents. Also, there is always one local category about Providence, Rhode Island in general or our New England Neighbors. The questions, when successful are designed to encourage teammates to discuss and debate their answers. Thus, a team can use the question clues to build to an answer it might not already know. Please look on this site for sample questions from a recent quiz.

The Fabulous Prizes.

Our first prizes have included Hibachi gas grills, brewery tours, PawSox and Bruins tickets and passes to the downtown skating rink. Third Prize is, as always, the coveted Wild Colonial Pint Glasses.
